Hit the 40's

Now that I'm in my 40's I'm finding out that I have to work much harder to maintain my weight. I was have gained 25lbs in the last 2 years. I got the information for this site from the dietician I saw today. I'm hopeing with some type of accountability, I can lose the weight I've gained and learn to maintain it after. Good Luck Everyone!!!

I found exactly the same thing happening in my late 30's and about the same weight gain, for me about one pound per month. It just crept on without me noticing so it was time to change my diet. At 40 I started a slimming programme and had a huge success with that, mainly discovering via its points system what to avoid and how to retrain myself. The biggest lesson it taught was that if you go hungry you are doing it wrong! The programme was too expensive to continue so I gave up. After it the weight came back on but much much slower, about 6lbs per year showing some of the new good habits had stuck with me. Had Myfitnesspal existed back then, then I might have saved myself a lot of money. It is so easy to track your food using the app and the website, you'll soon learn what to avoid and what is good. I set a goal of losing 2lbs per week but have found this to be too hard. I'm not ready for that yet so I'm not beating myself up about that and have reset my goal to 1.5lbs per weeks and this works for the moment until I figure out how to improve my diet some more. A 'bad' week for me is just one where I lose less than my goal but I have lost weight every week without fail so far.
So good luck, have fun with it and never go hungry!

I know what you mean about reaching your 40's and gaining wt. It's not fair really and it is harder to lose this wt. It will take time to do this...step by step is the only way to go. We can meet our goals. Please feel free to add me.
