Finished Dry-run for Turkey Day 5K

I'm planning to participate in my first 5K on Thanksgiving day. I've been hitting the gym regularly and just this morning I did my first complete 3.1 miles on the treadmill. I know actually running on the road with a mass of other people and potential hills will be much different, but I'm just a bit pyched to have gotten to this point.

The biggest problem I've had recently has been with my calves. They're getting tight and aching after I've cooled down and when I just get started. I think they're more or less OK after they're warmed up though. Should I be using some kind of compression wrap or something while running to protect them from injury? I'd hate to be a half-mile into my first 5K and drop out due to a muscle injury.

BTW, I got through in about 48 minutes this morning. I had finished the first 2.1 miles in 25.5 minutes alternating between running and walking. I just wanted to finished the 5K in under and hour and it looks like I'm well on my way to do that on race day.
