Fat Fat VS Fit Fat!

SO maybe this is just my preception because I'm so used to looking at my ridiculously overweight body (I'm still over weight but not to the YOU WEIGHT HOW MUCH?!?!?!?! point anymore) But does anyone else think a body looks so much thinner when you're over weight but working out and getting healthy? My current weight is 203 - I still have a long way to go - but I'm pretty sure I didn't look this good when I was gaining weight and hit 200. I don't know if I'm explaining myself right - if your "in shape" and over weight do you look better better than someone at the same weight who's not? When I type it out like that, it sounds a little "no duh"-ish, but I'll ask anyways.

Since muscle takes up less room than fat, 200 lbs on a muscular frame will look smaller than 200 lbs of flab.0

As you are getting more fit, I think that you carry yourself differently. So you tend to look better no matter what. You are probably looking good because you are losing inches vs pounds. When I was working out more i was 5 lbs heavier but belly was slimmer.0

For me I think it's all about perception.. It's like temperature fluctuations. I live in Canada so we go through this a LOT. The first time the thermometer dips DOWN to freezing everyone cries and whines how cold it is and how they miss summer yadda yadda but come springtime after a long cold dark winter when the thermometer goes ABOVE freezing everyone is so happy because its so warm..
I remember my goal weight. I've been there..it was just before university - I was about 26. I remember gaining every pound and being in tears because it just didn't stop. I remember going to the doctor at 150 and BEGGING for help because I looked disgusting and was SOOO fat! only to be told I didn't have a problem. I went back at 180 and they gave me some pills which didn't work and the weight kept climbing..I remember hating the way I looked..
Now.. I would KILL to be the 'fat' thing I thought I was at 150. I can see the changes having lost 30 lbs so far and even though I remember 190 on the way UP it is nothing like the way I feel now on the way DOWN to know that I will get smaller. I have always considered myself to be in decent shape. I walk, I hike, I am active in my daily life even though I don't work out so I don't know that I consider the 'in shape' thing to be a factor. I really think a lot of it has to do with perception when you are talking in terms of a BIG weight difference. Possibly for those who have only a few pounds to lose the 'in shape' thing plays more of a factor?0
