If it makes your tongue numb then you are allergic... I am too... Unless you LOVE the stuff... just stay away from it

Could be OAS (oral allergy syndrome). Some foods can cause a mild tingling or numbness which doesn't represent a true allergy but more of an intolerance. For me certain fruits that I tolerate just fine when very ripe cause mouth and throat itching if I eat them before they are completely ripe ie. bananas, canteloupe, melons.

Celery has a lot of psoralens and nitrates in it, you might be sensitive to it.
  • Celery contains Eugenol. A substance used, in a more concentrated form, while applying temporary dental fillings.

It's normal that eating a lot of it will make your tongue numb (or a little, if you're sensitive). It's not a toxin and it's not an allergy. Keep eating it, if you like it.

Not enough peanut butter on it.
  • It's making your tongue numb because your tongue is so damn bored when you are eating it. Rice cakes are also notorious for causing tongue numbness. Lol.

Celery is sometimes a cross reactive allergen with latex, so do you have a latex allergy?

I do and I can not eat it raw, only cooked in soups. Shrug. No matter how good people say certain foods are for you, if they make you feel bad, they are NOT good for YOU.

And if you are having minor intolerance type reactions, it is often best to avoid that trigger in future to reduce the possibility of worse results.
