How important is BMR?

I will Google later tonight but thought I would ask the question. I have cut my calories significantly and I am doing roughly 1500 calories daily (net exercise) . This number is the one that came from MFP based on my goals. When I did my BMR it says 2214 with no activity and more as my workouts escalate.
I am doing weights, walking, eliptical and hills as my exercise right now and will start swimming again soon. I do 30-40 min at a time and when I can, do one morning and 1 evening session. I am burning 400-800 calories daily.
What impacts will I have with the lower calorie intake or is it OK? Will I plateau sooner with the lower calories? Just looking for some insights from those of you that have been successful

I personally base my caloric intake off of my BMR, the calorie number MFP gave me was really low and I was constantly hungry, and would bonk on hard workouts because my body didn't have any fuel to work with. There are other sites that will give you a more accurate picture of the calories you will need in a day, (in my opinion), and then you can put those numbers into your MFP profile. You will find a plethora of info through google for sure, as I did this when I started my journey, I also consulted my doctor and a trainer/nutritionist as well.0

I think the values MFP gives are too generic. Everybody's metabolism is different and is going to vary on too many factors.
1500 is too low for that much activity. You are going to slow your metabolism. If you are male, which I am assuming you are from your picture, you could probably eat 300-500 more and still low weight just fine.0 -

BMR is what you would burn in a coma so activity doesn't play into your BMR. That number doesn't change unless you change weight or age. You should be eating over your BMR, actual food consumption.0 -
Fair enough, thank you for the information, appreciate it.
