Fitness on the road

I travel for work from time to time and next week is another trip...for a little bit longer too (10 days). I always check out the hotel and area we are staying in once I get my travel arrangements to scope out restaurants, gyms, shopping, etc.
Well, guess what? This trip the hotel has no gym in it. No worries, I will look for a gym nearby and see if I can snag a week pass or something. Guess what again? No gym nearby. In these cases (and there have been a few) I usually satisfy my workouts by walking. Well...the weather is going to ICK at best when I am there, plus the hours I will be working I will be going to work in the dark and getting off *just* before dark. Because I don't know the area I'm not comfortable walking at night.
I think I am going to bring my pilates dvd with me, but I was wondering if you guys have any other ideas for workouts that will be somewhat quiet, since I don't want to disturb my neighbors in the hotel.
Sorry about the long post and thank you for any ideas you might have!! :glasses:

Walk the hotel! Down the hall way, up the stairs to the next floor, down the hallway on that floor to the other side stairs, up...repeat until you get to the highest floor and go back down! Most hotel layouts work for this b/c they are required to have stairs at either end of the building. Or just walk up and down the stairs for a half hour, your buns will love it!0

nerdfitness has Free Workout Routines that can be performed in any room (you will need table and 2chairs for some of them, but the hotel one - linked is designed for hotel room )
they are super simple cuircuit resistance trainings (so you get some strenght and some cardio benefits) all to be done in 30 minutes0 -
Stair-master--old school! When I used to travel for my job I'd do "laps" across one floor, up/down the stairs, across the next floor, etc. For a more intense workout, try running up the stairs.
The other thing you can do is calisthenics. Before you leave, make a list of which exercises at how many reps. Use water bottles as weights. (Push-ups, Sit-ups, Jumping Jacks, Yoga poses, arm circles, tricep extensions, bicep curls, squats, lunges, etc)
And then there's the Oh-So-Glamorous jogging in place.
You will find something that clicks with you! Good luck!0 -
stairs in the hotel! Or you can just youtube some videos to do while you're gone, or pick up a DVD for super cheap from walmart or somewhere to go. However 30 mins of stairs would be a KILLER workout, make sure you walk up AND down them though. I did 30 mins of stairs at work the other day and my legs were SO sore, it was awesome!0

I'm in the same boat! I travel 1 or 2 weeks per month January through June for work, but I haven't traveled while trying to lose weight. There have been other posts about this and people said that resistance bands are your friends! They can be easily packed in a suitcase and can be done with any exercise where weights are use. I would probably bring Jillian Michaels DVDs and use the bands. Also, someone also suggested requesting a hotel room on the first floor so you don't bother anyone if you're jumping around.
My challenge is that I will be travelling with (much older and senior) coworkers who will be making all the decisions about where to eat, etc. I can't eat by myself somewhere else because I'm not allowed to put through expense reports, so I have to do what everyone else is doing. I plan on bringing lots of healthy snacks!0 -
30 day shred isn't too noisy. Use water bottles for weights, and you can find it on YouTube if you don't have the DVD.0

Thanks everyone for your quick response! I'm going to do two things before I leave now: familiarize myself with the hotel room workout AND look into some resistance bands as well (I never even thought of this before).
I am all about the hallway walking and the stair climbing too! Thanks everyone for all the ideas! :bigsmile:0
