I need some help with my sign language project.

I'm a second year ASL student and I am working on a project for my class in which we are to choose any subject having to do with the Deaf community. Being a Political Science major, I decided that I want my project to be on Politics and Deafness and discuss the participation of Deaf people in politics, and maybe find some ways to make politics more deaf-friendly.

So, for this project, I could just do some research on the internet, but I would really like some input from actual deaf people (or people who have deaf family members or friends who would like to help me out).
