My ice skating experience ...

Last night I went (well sorta went) ice skating. First I couldn't find what entrance we were supposed to go through. Finally after driving around for 15 mins I found the place. So, my daughter and I are excited. I huffed and puffed up a few flights of stairs, walk quite a bit of a way to get to the entrance and get in line. Look over and everybody's got tickets. ding ding ding I didn't know that. So, back we went up another flight of stairs to go buy the tickets and then huff and puff all the way back to the entrance. By now, I'm exhausted but the show must go on.

So we go in and get our skates. Something I didn't think of, but how am I going to get these things on? Well that turned into an olympic performance. I can't reach down much and when I do, I can hardly reach the top of the skate. So between me, my daughter and my sister, and after about 15 mins we finally get the skates on. So I'm huffing and puffing even more and sweating like crazy. :grumble:

At this point I think that I've had enough exercise but I did have the skates on (after about 15 mins) so I might as well get on the ice. Problem: I could not stand up. It's hard enough getting out of a chair now add ice skates to the picture. So I'm sitting there trying to figure this one out and then my sister's BF came over and helped me up. Then I had to walk in the skates. I take one shaky step and think "this is NOT a good idea" but I came this far so what the hell! So I wobble over to the entrance, praying the whole time that I wouldn't fall. I'm standing holding onto the rail and I put one skate on the ice. It slid. Did you know ice was slippery??? :noway:

So I'm standing there watching all of these kids get on the ice for about 10 mins. until I finally got my nerve up. Very carefully I walk onto the ice grabbing the rail for dear life. Start to walk (forget about skate) and after two steps the skates went out under me. I grabbed the rail tighter to stop myself from falling and it was at that precise moment, that my back hit a high note C (or maybe it was a D). I said that's it. Now I had to figure out how to get myself back off of the ice. Very carefully I walk my way back and half slide and half walk and get off of the ice. I wobble back to my chair and after much huffing and puffing get my skates off.. By now I'm really sweating from all of the exertion.

I went skating about 3 years ago and didn't have this problem but I was also 100 lbs lighter. Between lack of exercise and weight, I couldn't really do it anymore. So I made a promise to myself that I that this time next year I WILL get on the ice and really skate. :flowerforyou:

Oh my! Quite an adventure. Can't wait to hear next year's story - although it sounds like it won't be nearly as much of an ordeal.

Sounds like a real workout. You should cut and past that post into a word document so next year you can read it and remember when!

Hey, your story sounds almost identical to mine every time I get on the ice after not skating for just one summer.

You'll get back out there. I really enjoy it, I'm always just so suprised at how slippery the ice is...duh.:embarassed:
