Hi All!
I have been dabbling in weight training for the last 4 months....using dumbbells and following programs in the book "The Women's Health Big Book of Exercises." While I love the book and find it extremely useful, I feel like it's time to step it up and take it to the next level in an attempt to really transform myself.
I decided to add to my home gym and bought an Olympic barbell set and bench. I was planning on waiting until Christmas to get my power rack as it looks like I will be getting gift cards for Christmas to put towards the purchase. I brought all my new toys home today and am super excited
but.....
I am planning on doing the StrongLifts 5x5 program. I had read on the website about the Steinborn lift as a way to do the squats when a rack isn't available. I thought, yeah, no problem, I can do that!
I tried it tonight and it feels AWFUL and AWKWARD! Since I workout at home and alone I really don't feel like trying my luck at something that feels so wrong.
So......
I'm looking for suggestions as to what I can do for the squats until I get my power rack.
I probably could manage to get my rack before Christmas.....but if there is a way that I can manage to hold off for awhile, I think that I would prefer that.
Any advice is greatly appreciated
Lisa

Not the best way to do it, but I don't have money or room for a squat rack, so this is what I do: http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/BBHackSquat.html
I was doing front squats, but it quickly got too heavy to get into that position.0 -
Steinborn lift look like an accident waiting to happen. Lorina gave you a great suggestion for now and it will probably really help improve your grip.0

LorinaLynn----thank you
I know that you mentioned this to me when I PM'ed you yesterday! It is looking like it's the best option. I think I'm just nervous as working with the oly bar is so new to me and a bit awkward at this point!
Yanicka----yes I agree! I didn't think so by looking at the video but once I tried it OMG it was awful lol0
