The calories withdrawn when a pint of blood is drawn, is made up quickly by re-hydration, and food, as the Red Cross people DO want to have you eat something and drink water or juice after donating.

I hope that you haven't drunk too much, that's all. What could happen to the person being transfused, if the donated blood has a higher than normal alcohol content?

Interesting question. The blood bank always asks what medications the donor is on, but I've never had anyone ask me about recent alcohol use. They blood service doesn't seem too concerned about it.

Blood is usually separated into components, and multiple compnents may be given to multiple receivers depending on different health needs. Even if a unit of whole blood was transfused, it would be quickly diluted (an adult has 4-5 litres of blood, and a typical blood unit is less than one half-liter.

I've heard that giving blood *before* drinking will make you a cheap drunk...haven't tested that theory though.
