An Important Journey

My weight has been creeping up over the years. When I was at 155 at 5'3, I thought that was the most I would be without altering my diet. But thanks to natural aging (turning 29 this week), poor habits and PCOS, the weight kept packing on. When I hit 178lbs I couldn't believe it and knew I had to make a change.

Over the last half year I forced myself to stop binging on candy in stressful times and eating other super unhealthy food, which has brought my weight down to 165lbs. But I still have a long way to go. That's where My Fitness Pal comes in. I know with my 5'3 frame, every calorie makes a huge difference. It's a pain to track calories but to make a dent in my weight I have to do it. Not only that, but the support of the community here is pretty awesome, and I'm already enjoying reading about people's weightloss and health journeys.

I'm not athletic at all but my new office has a great gym, so I'm forcing myself to go there a few times a week. I'd like to start going 3-5 days for at least one hour. Getting up in the morning to go to the gym is super hard for me at this point, but once I'm there (and done) my mood and energy the entire day feels so much better. I do mostly cardio and the weight machines. I've never been able to run a mile (let alone a quarter mile) without stopping and walking, so that's my goal right now. I'd like to run a marathon at some point but first things first, I need to build up my stamina, a lot.

Finding time to be fit is challenging with work (I work for a startup and typically am working 10+ hours per day) but it's something that, as I turn 29, is a priority and a necessity in my life. So is eating the right about of calories per day. I welcome you to join me in my weight loss and get healthy journey (from 165lbs to 115lbs) and share your own tips on what works and how to avoid temptations. It's nice to meet you all, thanks for being part of such an awesome community here!

You are smart to be starting this now, as opposed to ten years from now. My mom has always said, when it pertains to a goal like going back to school or weight loss, that the same amount of time will pass whether you take action or not, so why not take the action now and be ahead of the game rather than waiting until later?

Sounds to me like you're on track to accomplish exactly what you want. I hope I do as well. :)
