High-volume restaurants rant

I expect food I pay for to not be total ****, even if it's only 10 bucks a plate. I know lots of places don't necessarily pride themselves on their culinary technique, but is it honestly too much to ask to have salad that's not actively decomposing on my plate, from having sat DRESSED in a tub all day? (Or stale bread, or overcooked chicken, or bitter coffee?)
I mean why the **** are you even in the business if you hate food, and clearly, your customers, and maybe, yourself? It's not like it's easy work, I know!
Is it impossible to make half-decent food (just half, HALF decent; just edible, even) at a reasonable price?
One day a week, I'm out all day, and when I don't bring stuff with me I'm stuck with one place out of 12 that makes food that doesn't look, taste and smell like vomit.
