It's not this or that. It's and and.
Eating after 5 pm is harder on your metabolism for most people.
After 5 pm your body's natural clock tells it to slow down.
People that really listen to their body, can feel something changing after 5 pm.
The body turns from feeding mode into cleansing mode.
But don't go for the theory. Try it !!
And of course it is also important what you eat.
So it's what you eat and when you eat it.
Try it, and you will see !

god you're so wrong.
If I didn't eat after 5 PM I would probably die- I leave work at 5 PM- spend 2 hours at the gym then spend another 3 at my dance studio- so it's 10 or later by the time I've come home and have burned upwards of 4-600 calories.
And I'm just supposed to not eat? WTF.
NO.
OP- if you find you're munching on too many snacks- either accommodate that by eating less earlier- or just go with the no eating later rule. Either one will work- but it's because it's what's manageable FOR YOU- not because it helps your pancreas or metabolism.
I don't do well at night be hungry- so I specifically push back all my calories to the afternoon/evenings. And I start eating around 1 and finish around 11. It works for me and has for many years. So that's what I do.
If that doesn't work for you- then try the not eating thing-but do what works and is sustainable for eating a calorie deficit and doesn't make you crazy hangry.

I lost 312 lbs. taking a 500 calorie snack (usually chocolate) into bed with me every night (and still do). Meal Frequency has absolutely no bearing on Weight Loss..... Eat whenever you can fit it in and allows you to adhere to your caloric intake and hitting your macros needs..... Best of Luck

As long as I can remember I have eaten later in the evening and am always hungry around that time of the day. I can deal with having a light breakfast and/or lunch but eating all my cals by 5:00pm would definitely result in me surpassing my daily goals. I'd just be awake in bed thinking about food then get up at midnight and start snacking. Also the idea of eating early and going to bed early is not an option for me - I don't usually finish work until around 8:00PM.0

I totally agree that it's not WHEN you eat but more WHAT you eat.
Used to be that if I'd eat later at night, I always showed a gain. However, I've now learned that if I hav something that's easily digestible (like applesauce or silken tofu with cocoa in it), I will show a loss. Even if I have those things later at night.
So it's not so much WHEN but more WHAT.

I can only tell you what has worked for me. I think everyone needs to find what works for them and work with that. If someone is looking to lose weight and can't -- why not give them different options to try? Telling someone that one way is the right way, to me is wrong. The right way is what works for the body. And everyone is different. I know that even if I have some tofu and am in a surplus of calories, I'm ALWAYS down. Every body is different. How many times have we heard the statement "eat breakfast like a kind, lunch like a queen, and dinner like a pauper" If you calorie-load earlier in the day, it only stands to reason that the body has more time to burn off those calories.

nope, it doesn't work for me. I like to eat right before bed. It works for some people though so nothing wrong with trying it. If it helps you stay within your calories then great, go for it... if it makes you miserable then don't do it.0

There is nothing magic about cutting off your eating by a certain time. If you are aiming to lose weight… it's going to boil down to how many calories you are getting vs how many you are burning off.
But if it helps you to have a cut off point… like it stops you from late night kitchen raids or something… or maybe you just sleep better when you don't eat for awhile before bed… then go for it.
Personally… I work a graveyard shift. 90% of my daily intake takes place between the hours of 7pm and 7 am. And even the food that is eaten after 7 am is almost always within 2 hours or less of when I go to sleep. Hasn't hurt my weight loss one bit.0 -

Ridiculous. And I have a job - I'm at work at 5pm. These people who don't eat after 5 have too much free time on their hands.
