After lots of research, I'm still debating whether to get a Bodymedia fit to measure general activity AND my running/ walking/DVD exercise or use the fitbit for general activity and put on a Polar FT4 for running and exercise DVD. Any comments would be great.

I would always go for a HRM because it gives you a more accurate caloric burn. I thought about a Fitbit but have decided against it after reading many, many reviews. These things are not very accurate all the time. If you are serious about working out then you want to know how many calories you are burning while running, walking of doing i.e. a Jillian Michaels dvd. I know that I am burning calories all day long and that it is better to use the stairs and not the elevator. I don't need a device for that. What I want to know is how many cals I am burning during serious exercise.
Others will have a different opinion, I'm sure.
    Good luck :flowerforyou:

Oh, before I forget: just read reviews on Amazon. Read them all and you will see that Body M F and Fitbit are not very accurate

    Hi Jaz,

I have a Polar HRM (FT7) and also a fitbit. I also use runkeeper to track distances.

In the end I decided I would use the fitbit JUST for general activity. When i go running/cycling and everything else i just leave the fitbit at home and use my hrm. Thats what I'd suggest.

Edit: Thought I'd explain why. While the fitbit took some real tweaking, I ended up getting it mostly accurate. but I still had to check up on it, and truth be told I don't want to always be checking up on it. So HRM is always reliable! Plus when I use Runkeeper I can log my av HR to see a fitness improvement trend on my graphs.

    Hi Jaz

I have a body media and an FT7. I went for the bodymedia as my previous pedometer would give very incorrect work rate for the cycling that I do, The bodymedia seems to be a lot more realistic.

I keep the body media on all the time, but only add the FT7 when i am doing more serious exercise, and find that the BM givs a better calorie burn against time rather than the FT7 which only gives duration average and max. But then I am on the bike for a long time.

Think I maybe wrong to worry about walking a few extra steps. I'm within my healthy weight range and not much to lose so probably need to put the emphasis on upping my exercise. Is a HRM good for weight traing too?

HR monitor won't do you much good for weight training.

PYROwill summed it up very well.

I have a fitbit and a garmin. I don't wear the fit bit when I am doing my runs. That is for a couple reasons, sweat can destroy it, and I've found that it's not always accurate on my runs. When I am done, I manually log the activity into fitbit. I do like that it talks to MFP. I only have to enter food in one place (MFP) and I manually enter my workout in fitibit. It is nice that it tracks what you do for the whole day. Unless you do like I did and leave it on the charger most of the day yesterday. I love my fitbit!

Providing say you actually fill your alloted time session with weight training then you can prob just go by any internet calorie search for 30mins weight training etc. Failing that you could still use your HR for it, its not super inaccurate.
