TV buying info please... Smart TVs?

Samsung TVs.... smart TV... anyone have one?
I was looking at possibly buying one. Not sure how well the whole app on a TV thing works. Was looking at the 6100 or 6500 on the Samsung.
From what I have read.. the Sony bravia smart tv you have to pay for some services thru sonyentertainment.. getting movies thru wifi... others(LG, Samsung) you can use amazon and hulu... etc.
Not sure about that... that's really the info I need.
I was looking at a 46 -55" ... Slim LED. 120hz+....
TBH... I am not a big TV watcher... I watch movies but am not geeky about it. Not a sports watcher.
Love the idea that I can stream movies or shows from Amazon Prime or Netflix though...
What can y'all tell me?
