losing fat/gaining muscle

I know there can be a fine line to bringing down body fat percentage while maintaining or gaining lean muscle tissue. What results have you had with this issue and what are you doing to prevent muscle loss? I have been keeping my protein at about 160-200 per day. I weigh 172. My workouts consist of cardio and intense weight lifting. I just hope im heading in the right direction. Whats your tricks? supplements?
