The shameful 50 lbs

I am about 50 lbs overweight. I am sick and tired of it! I feel like a freaking cow. I have been having a hard time losing and keeping it off! I am a full time student, a full time mommy and try to be very involved with my church... groups, functions... exc. I need more friends to encourage me and keep me going. I am tired of being a fat, gross cow... ashamed of the way I look.

I know what you mean, I am currently 60 lbs overweight and I am sick and tired of feeling like a freaking cow myself. Losing has been very difficult for me in the past, but since I found mfp, I lost 10.5 lbs and kept it off. The support here is great! We can support one another in this endeavor. I want to be happy in the skin I am in.

Please don't talk to and about yourself that way! Amazing the way your body responds when you start appreciating it.

I started out 80-90lbs overweight. Since I am only 5ft 2in tall, every pound shows. You just have to set your mind to it and do it!

I was 100lbs over weight. I am still 70lbs over weight as of today.
  • The journey is so different, just don't give up! There seems to be some really suoportive people on this site who are all in the same boat. Do your best to stay focused and make achievable goals. I thought a year ago I could get down to my goal weight. Well 40lbs later I'm only halfway there but I'm so much better off than I was 12 months ago. No need to get down on yourself. You can do it!

7 years ago I was over twice what I am now. By most people's standards my weight loss was super-slow. I'm not sorry about that because I did it through permanent change and learning.
Hating on yourself won't help you, but coming to MFP for support and assistance will, if used right :)

Fill out your profile page. Set a reasonable goal for improving your nutrition along with counting calories. And set a reasonable goal for exercise. If you are not used to doing much activity wise, start with a walk. See what you are capable of and adjust from there. You can do it and be a healthy size. Also work on your attitude toward yourself. You are not a cow (which is a big but not a FAT animal) who is passively led about and told what to do....you are a human and you can be proactive and make choices for yourself. Just start with the first step and go forward.

I know what you mean. Having been thin my whole life, I felt horrible this summer when I found out I had gained about 25 pounds since college and was at the top end of the "healthy BMI" range. Your hard work will pay off if you just believe in yourself. After about 3 months I have lost all 25 founds, am working out regularly, am at a BMI of 21 and will be racing in my first 5k next weekend:)

You may be overweight, but you are not "gross" and you don't need to be ashamed of anything. Feeling bad about yourself isn't going to help you lose weight, and, in my experience it might even hurt. I started at 110 pounds overweight, I'm now about 40 pounds over and I don't feel gross or ashamed. Feeling good about myself is what inspires me to keep eating right and exercising. Try to focus on the things your body can do and not on feeling bad because you don't meet some idealized image.

If you want to lose weight, MFP is a great tool. The best thing I ever did weight loss wise was to buy a food scale and start logging here. You can do it, you just have to be patient, and take one day at a time (a cliche, but a true one). Don't spend any more time hating yourself, just get to work on getting to where you want to be. Good luck to you.

Would you talk to your loved ones the way you are talking about yourself? The first step you need to take is to look in the mirror and tell yourself all of the things you LOVE about yourself. Okay so you have 50lbs to shed, it's not impossible, many including myself have done it. Change the voice in your head, take positive actions and you will find success!!

There is a group for people with 50 lbs to lose and 100 lbs to lose. I'm at a little less than 100 lbs to lose. I'm a mom and a student and I know the difficulties that brings, but you are seeking support and help, so that is a good thing. These things take time. You'll take two steps forward and two steps back, but if you can stick with it, you'll get there. I will be right there with you!

Yup. This....a thousand times over! Self loathing will keep you from achieving your weight loss goals.
