know it may seems like the obvious question but I'm trying to understand why it's so hard to diet down a little...i'm 9stone and my aim is to get to 8 or 8 and a half even...now I know hormones, water retention and all that play a huge role but apart from that why is it so hard to loose a little?

Also would a low carb diet help with this or would it make any difference?

Just curious :).

Just want to say that I had been wavering all over the "last 10 lbs" for years...it wasn't until I started "heavy lifting" this past summer (New Rules of Weight Lifting for Women) combined with EM2WL (Eat More To Weigh Less) and took wheat/grains out of my diet that I finally seem to have achieved that magic number (and better body shape!)

Both of those groups are on MFP!

I have my own theory(s) on this...1) as you get closer to goal, the estimated calories in and out can error out on you and Murphy's Law means not in the favor of losing weight. 2). The less you have to lose, the bigger it is as a percentage of your body weight and 3) it is like Christmas, you appreciate it because you had to wait for it.

thanks for the replies....makes sense have heard about the calories in and out one, its just so hard to tell...i'm always round the 1200-1400 range anyway.

Also CanGirl40 about the heavy lifting i've noticed that before when i posted about diet a lot recommended may do a bit of research on new rules of weight lifting for women and take it from there. :) also how is your diet without wheat/grain if you dont mind me asking was it very difficult to adjust?
