Christmas is right around the corner and being a good aunt, I'm trying to help Grandma pick some cool toys that boys would love. I guess this is directed at the male population (though some ladies here may have multiple sons so please help). What would you guys recommend? What's a toy that will get good usage and will actually keep their attention?

My son loves Lego sets....mostly Star Wars. Do they have any gaming systems? He loves his Wii and PS2 and PSP. (geez brat anyone? lol) and movies for movie night. For outside, maybe a Razor scooter? Nerf guns?0

Turbospoke Bike Exhaust System (turns a boring old bike into a VRRRROOOOM sound machine)
or
Monkeylectric LED lights for bike wheels.
Boys gotta ride.0 -
The best gift I got my 8 year old son last year, when he was 7 was the SpyNet Spy watch. He still uses it, like right now. And it's the only toy that has even survived the year. So that's my suggestion!!0

My 6 year old is into Legos (Ninjago, Harry Potter, Super Hero Squad), Nerf Dart Guns, Skylanders (video game). He's also big into Transformers and they have a TON of different ones out there!!0

I got socks and disappointment when I was 7.

They also have the guns that shoot snowballs. If you live where there is snow. I saw them at Bed Bath and Beyond.0

What are his interests? What are his hobbies and what's his personality like? It really depends. Racing car stuff and bikes are popular usually.0

Maybe a Lego set
Or if he has any video game systems, you could get him a game or a gift certificate to Game Stop.
Or maybe some movies.
If you're still lost, you could just give him money. Kids love money.0 -
As a mom of three now-teenage boys, may I recommend the Captain Underpants books (starring the wicked wedgie woman and professor poopy-pants). Silly, bathroom humor (obviously), but universally appealing to boys that age. I saw my sons' standardized test scores jump a couple of grade levels thanks to Dav Pilkey's ridiculous but beloved paperbacks. They read them until they fell apart.0

I also second the nerf gun and lego suggestions. In my house, guests are still subject to nerf sniper fire, despite my boys' advanced ages.0

What kind of price range were you looking for? I mean a Nerf gun is great but so is the Power Wheels Rubicon Jeep $237. And where does he live, city, county, farm? In other words, a basketball is not a good gift if the closest hoop is 20 miles away. Just trying to get a bit more information to give a better response :happy:0

Ninjago and Skylanders are HUGE in my house this Christmas!0

I'm thinking between 50 and 100 bucks. Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'll look into that spywatch. I don't think I've ever heard of it but it definitely sounds interesting.

I have a 7 and 8 year old boy and they love their legos. Also, for books, my hubby is just finishing reading them the Percy Jackson series and they are in love! They also still enjoy their cars/race tracks, remote control cars/helicopter. They also do enjoy "cool" clothes, ironically. But then again, I adopted my boys at 4&5 and they are extremely easy to please with gifts.0

I loved legos as a kid. And GI joes. Not sure if they still make the 3inch figures anymore. I was also into comic books then. I read a lot of the Goosebumps too around that age.
I had an NES too and played a lot of video games.0 -
Legos for sure. I second the motion on Captain Underpants. Though, in defense of my gender, it was wildly appealing to my three daughters. Potty humor is across the board with kids. On top of that I'd throw in Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events. Wonderful kids books with some education to them.0
