read the Engine 2 diet, or watch "forks over knives" dvd , better than trying to get opinions here.

Vegan sources of protein include tofu, chickpeas, lentils, beans, soy, nuts, seeds. Even grains/seeds like quinoa and oats have a decent amount of protein. Have a look at http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/ and www.veganyumyum.com for some healthy vegan recipe ideas. The complicated thing with veganism is to remember that most non-animal proteins are incomplete rather than complete proteins, so you need to eat enough variety to get the complete set.

Of course, if you are thinking of vegetarian rather than vegan, you can still have eggs, milk, cheese, yoghurt etc - all good sources of protein.

Yeah, if you're just looking into it maybe start out by cutting down meat (eating once or twice a week), then you could switch to vegetarian plus fish (pescetarian - this is what I am), and then to vegetarian if you're still into it?

if he is your friend why dont you just ask him?
  • My oldest boy is Vegan, his brother is not and eats large amounts of animal protein. They both train hard with no noticeable difference in results. There's a lot of information out there if you're thinking about it.

...also read "Beyond Broccoli" by Susan Schenck in order to get a balance perspective.
