I'm new here, I go by FloridaPops. Married 22 years, 3 steps kids, one with my wife, and 4 grands kids, so some just call me "Pops". According to the current weight standards at 5'11 and 225 pounds, am what is obese, my definition is different. I may be overweight, but not obese.

I am 48 years old, years ago as some would say, I was a great looking guy. Hey I still have my hair...LOL...however I have to make changes. I do like my beer. I talked to a very good friend of mine who is a bodybuilder and will be taking his advise, "slow-gradual change". I no longer eat fast foods, I rarely drink soda, and I'm slowly transitioning my body.

I started back with cardio, doing what could only be a 15 minute workout which was a week ago. It's amazing how FAST the body can get out of shape. So my goal is to lost 10 pounds, then transition back to weights over the next two weeks. My ultimate goal....? Is that when I turn 50 to be in the best shape of my life, that way I can go back to the doctor......and tell her to "shove it", and that regardless of her "genetic inheritance" taught education to prove to her that the medical theory world has been known to be wrong.

I'm borderline high blood pressure (yes...I haven't taken care of myself). But my friend told me, "Pops....LISTEN to your body".
So I have, I intend on slowly changing out my diet and portion control. This past Thanksgiving my mother in law approached me what I thought was VERY rude....she rubbed my belly, laughed and said, "Pops....are you expecting?". We laugh those things off, but.....you know damn well inside it hurt. My daughter laughed at me a week ago, and asked me if I was expecting?
My wife tells me, "I like my Buddha". They say it's all in joking, now I know when I was in shape how a guy or girl who was overweight felt........it hurts. All I can say.....is now......it's PERSONAL!

I wish you all the best not just in your goals, but to your better health!

May God be with you all.

-Pops

Welcome to MFP; there are a great deal of people here who love to help when someone reaches out. I'm sorry people have said hurtful things. I guess even those we love most sometimes are clueless that what they say is hurtful without realizing it. Ingest what you're saying about wanting to be in the best shape of your life at 50. Though I started my transformation at 50 earlier this year. Good luck to you. If you want to friend me, I can help you with your journey!
