Hi Guys
I am considering doing a ten day trek to the Great Wall of China with our local radio station in August 2013, raising funds for disadvantaged kids in the area. However, the fundriaisng target for each person is £3,200, its a huge sum and I wonder whether I can can do it!
I would love to go, I am 50 next year and cannot think of a better way of celebrating it.
Any advice or ideas anyone can give???
Thanks
Mandy x

I'd say go for it. Work it like it's your job. You can do it if you are totally committed0

Hello my lovely, hope you are well. What an amazing idea! What station is this with??? You could do several things to raise money, first and foremost is to set up a 'just giving' page online. Open it for a year and write a message about what you are doing and why, your friends and family will start things off and even of people cannot afford to give much there is not limit on amount... once things get kicked into shape advertise you charity fundraising page and people will be inspired by your will power to want to do this. Also you could raise money in other ways, sell things (as the lady above said) or creating raise funding events that people could go too?
I think its a wonderful thing to do and as your local buddy I will help you in ANYWAY I can... just keep me up to date.

Do it! It sounds like a great experience and fundraising for charity doesn't have to be that hard. If you look on the pages of a charity like Raleigh International I think they have lots of fundraising advice - or just use google for ideas! You could do runs or sell cakes - I did a cake stall with some friends the other day and we raised nearly £200 in just a few hours.0

That sounds amazing! I've always wanted to do a Kilimanjaro treck for charity but was put off by the massive (but undertstandable due to costs involved) target fundraising.
I think as long as you have at least a year and start early you could do it
Maybe even speak to little local businesses and see if they would be willing to donate gifts that you could raffle. Or even get a business to sponsor you, wear their t-shirt on the treck0 -
Raffles
Car boot sales
"Fireside quizes" - 20 questons or anagrams, sell the sheet at £1 a go, first correct name out of the hat gets £10 (or a prize that you've been donated). these are dead easy to do, very easy to sell door to door or at your child's school.0 -
You know you will get support from me! Moral and financial when possible.
Good Luck

It's a great trip idea. What part of the fund raising goes to the travel and to the charity?
If it is like this http://www.responsibletravel.com/holiday/4553/great-wall-of-china-charity-trek it is 500 £ to charity, the rest is travel expenses.
It might be important to friends (and honest) to be clear up front about that. Avoid surprises.
Have a great time, try to assure you go in a smaller group, big trek groups are dependent on the weakest link, block extra time to visit Beijing - hope your trek is a success!0
