Cottage cheese before bed..?

I understand that it's good to eat cottage cheese before bed, but when they say before bed .. do they mean the typical 2-3 hours beforehand or eat it and fall asleep right after?

And what is your understanding on why it's good before bed?

Because cottage cheese is delicious? End of thread.

But I have it for breakfast too..and lunch. Sometimes I like to eat cake before bed. I have no idea where I am going with this.
  • The casein protein in it is slow digesting.

The only recommendation I would make is to swallow the last bite before you fall asleep - alleviates those nasty choking hazards. :)

Humor aside, it doesn't matter when you eat it. Calories are calories and your body will process them the same way regardless of when they're eaten. Your metabolism/digestive system runs 24 hours a day.

Alot of people that are trying to build intake some sort of slow protein before bed to reduce muscle loss while sleeping. If you're not a muscle loving bodybuiler fanatic I think you'll do fine without eating protein riht before bed. =)

And even if you are a muscle loving bodybuilder fanatic, you'll still be fine without nighttime casein.

Watch eating cheese directly before going to bed, it can be a perfect recipe for nightmares and bad dreams.

Especially as that's when muscle growth and repair happens... it doesn't just melt.

Cake is awesome. Someone would have to pay me to eat cottage cheese. I hate that crap.
