Mix ingrediants, put in canister, add the spinner/mixer thing
    Add Ice/Rock Salt
    Plug in (assuming electric)
Add Ice/Rock Salt as needed until the machine seizes.

Remove, motor, mixer, repack outside with more ice if you wish to help it set.

There are new ones by companies that make food processors and blenders. I have one where you put the cannister in the freezer first and then when it is cold enough take it out and put in ingredients and mix them in the frozen cannister with a crank that makes a mixing inset go around. After you make the ice cream you usually put it back in the freezer for a while to set. The problem is freezer space and planning ahead. The new ice cream makers by cuisinart etc are very tempting to me but I will probably stick to my old one as long as it works fine. I don't really have the extra money or space for the others.

I definitely think you can come up with healthier ice cream and gelato than what you can buy. Gelato includes milk and shouldn't be as hard frozen as ice cream. I want to try to make pistachio gelato. Not the one with the sicilian green pistachio syrup but some with real pistachios. We have a gelato place here that makes it sometimes but now has reverted to that other stuff I don't like. To me whole milk is very creamy. Also half and half could be used over straight cream. Also controling the ingredients so that you don't have added ones is nice too. Ice cream is the one dessert that I don't give up on a regular basis. I have others only on special occasions but like to have ice cream on the weekend as a treat and I really should be making it too.
