What happened to your tattoos?

Just wondering about people who have larger tattoos on their bodies. Did they morph when you lost a lot of weight? Anyone got pictures?

I don't have any tattoos - but I've often wondered this, Especially if you get the tattoo when you are large and then shrink your body through weight loss.0

Exactly what I was thinking! Like women with tattoos down their ribs and stuff... Do they hold their shape after 50lbs lost?0

My only tattoo is on the side of my calf. I doubt that it will change much because I have very little fat there. Most of my fat is on my thighs and hips.
I *have* seen pics on MFP of people who had tats on their bellies or hips and the tat morphed. But I think that would be the perfect excuse to get a new tat as a cover-up for the morphed one. At least, that's what I would do if it were me. :bigsmile:0 -
i have two large pieces on my lower back and yes i have lost fat there, and no they haven't changed...they have held up quite well since i dropped almost 60 pounds.0

.I have quite few... They still look the same.... I guess I'm lucky.... I have one on lower stomach closer to my hip that I thought will get really bad after I got pregos , but have to say even my huge belly didn't destroy it ...( my son was 9 pound and my water alone was about 15 and belly was enormous )0

I got my little lower back tattoo when I was thin. When I put the weight on the height of it squished down, then I lost 22kgs and it looks a lot better. Perhaps when I finish my journey it will be back to normal.0

This one question I am wondering myself. I have one on my upper arm and one on my ankle, and as a reward for my hard work my goal is a tattoo for every milestone I hit with my weight. I recently emailed a tattoo place and asked this very question. He said that my ankle tattoo should not really change. Not sure on my arm one without looking at it. I had wanted to get an inner wrist now, he had thought it would be ok. The other ones I wanted to get he suggested I wait until I get down to my goal weight, which I want to loose in excess of 100 lbs.
The other day I had a tank top on, and my husband scared the crap out of me and told me my turtle tattoo (the one on my arm) is shrinking. It really freaked me out! I love this tattoo it has special meaning for me. I am happy to say that yes it maybe shrinking, but it looks really good! Almost better than before. The detail is still there, the color has not changed.0 -

I have tattoo's on my arms, Thats probably a safer spot to get tattoo's if your bigger and lift weights as even though you lose weight, you may not lose too much arm mass (maybe). I have noticed them just a bit by how they wrap part of my arm but still look good.
As for bigger people with tattoo's in more fat retaining areas (back, chest, thighs) they are probably going to be a bit distorted, and if you lose weight really fast and have alot of extra skin, well they probably won't look the greatest.. If you got them while you were bigger and you lose a considerable amount, it will be skewed most likely.0 -
It depends on the placement and how elastic your skin is, everyone is different. On fleshier areas they sometimes become a little distorted or look like they have moved a teeny bit or got bigger/smaller/blurred slightly
I worked in a tattoo studio and I've never seen anything too awful, if anything it's something you may notice yourself but it won't be that obvious to others. I think the only one that sticks out is a stomach tattoo that was in black that had stretch marks running through it. Sometimes they can be reinked when healed but that just depends on the skin of the person.
My weight has been up and down over the years but the tattoos on my ribs have remained the exact same, whilst the one next to my belly button looks a little bigger and higher up than it's original placing.0 -
I have a lot of tatoos, but I planned their location based on the possibility that I could gain weight and they'd be all stretchy and gross0

I don't have one but a friend did.
She had a lizard around her belly button when she was thin. Then she feel preggers and gain an additional 60lbs on top of that. It morphed into a crocodile.
Then she lost all the weight, but still had some sagging skin, so had a tummy tuck, which cut the bottom bit off this lizard.
I'm not sure if she will cover it up with another tat, or get it removed with laser.0 -
I have a large piece on my back and a small one on my outer thigh. Neither have changed in any noticeable way. I would suspect something on the stomach, upper arms, or breasts could morph, but it might not be a bad thing, depending on the tattoo.0

No, but mine are in areas that aren't overly fatty or prone to stretching and shrinking.0
