Terrible Muscle Spasms in Legs? HELP?

I did my daily lunges and other stretches and now I can barely walk. It's been going on for a little over an hour. When I try to walk, my legs shake so much it looks like they're vibrating. My right leg is worse than my left. They jerk backwards at my knees randomly. I can barely walk and stand and when I do, I feel like I am going to fall over.

Every day I do yoga, lift light weights, and 50 squats and lunges. I changed NOTHING today.
Help? Is it just muscle spasms?
Is there something I can do it make it stop?

Try magnesium. My husband used to get bad leg cramps when he was on a statin drug and Natural Calm helped.

First thing I would do is eat something starchy/sugary. Muscle relaxers would be awesome if you happen to have some. Then maybe a hot bath.

Keep your potassium 2 - 3 times higher than your sodium.

how much potassium is in your diet ?? are you deficient?? are you getting enough water? soak in the tub with some warm water and epsom salts or magnesium salts it will help the muscle spasms. rest tomorrow.

This works for me. I use a product called natural calm. Be careful it acts as a laxative too.

It's fabulous that you do eat it everyday. Try eating it(banana) when the spasms start up and see if the symptoms change. Medical intervention might also be in order, jic.

yes- this sounds like potassium to me- I get rid of cramping fast when I take it
  • I used to get this really bad, the doc said Quinine will help... It's found in tonic water, I'm not a fan of the taste but I find it has really helped to stop the spasms.

What is Tonic Water? Thanks all. My legs are not as shaky today. but they still shake every now and then. theyre really really sore though.
  • Here in the UK the popular brand is Schweppes Indian Tonic Water...people drink it as a mixer with gin (Gin & Tonic) and it's seen as a bit of an old fashioned drink...I looked on Wikipedia a moment ago and it says in the US the amount of quinine is limited in the drinks by the FDA. Another brand name is Canada Dry..I think you can get it in a pill form from the Doctors too.

When they begin to cramp/spasm you might find putting something cold against your leg/foot helps such as standing on the cold enamel on the inside of an empty bath tub, as does gently massaging your leg..hope you get it sorted cause it's a real freaking pain!

I too had this problem and my doctor (I am in UK) told me to take 75 - 100mg of Q10 each night. It has really helped. I was so bad at one point that I was walking my dogs through an isolated field and my legs went into a spasm type cramp and I couldn't move for about half an hour. It had me so worried, but since taking the q10 (it takes a week or so to start working) I have been fine.

Check it out on the internet, it give you all the information you need.

You potassium may be low a banana won't replenish all that you are losing. If your potassium is low this can cause spasms and cramps

Agree, up your potassium with banana's or those drinks that help with electrolytes. TrIck I learned for charlie horse cramps is to pinch your lip when you feel them starting. Strange I know, but it works for me when doing my water aerobics. I thinks it some sort of accupressure effect!
