An Amature....For Real!

Having had WLS in June and my doctor telling me I can attempt any exercise I want to (just use good judgement..if it hurts too much....STOP). Well one of the things I want to do is jog/run. I have never jogged or ran unless I am headed to the restroom. Since this is all brand spankin new to me I am seeking the knowledge/advice of those who have mastered the art of running. What does an amature do to prepare herself for jogging/running...what kinds of exercises should be done and for how long?
I have had a fear of running/jogging for so many years that I just took is off the list of things to do. being 299lbs will do that to you. losing over 100lbs can change your thought on the matter as well. Things I have feared or been too scared to attempt are back on my list but with caution of course.
Any advice you can give a amature will be greatly appreciated, Thank you.
