New guy here, trying to gain weight (no typo)

Hey everyone, I'm a 20-year old male who, for as long as I can remember, could always stand to gain some weight, and strength as well. I know I'm among a great minority here, but hoping to find a few like-minded individuals. In the end, MFP looks like a great tool that will help me regardless of my goals. Feel free to add me, regardless of your goals or gender!

Hi there! I'm trying to lose .. LOL however .. I have an 18 year old son that I always called my albino ethiopian poster child. He eats like mad .. but was in water polo and swim all through high school.

Thankfully .. he's no longer in sports, going to college (living at home) .. but he's 6'2 and weighs barely more than me.. he's 123.4 lbs. I've always had healthy foods in the house .. never junk like potato chips and nothing ever deep fried.

He's on weight gainer supplements and protein shakes from the health store and the gym. He's got a personal trainer to help him learn work out routines with weights to build muscle and gain weight. I have always had an incredible grocery bill and it's going through the roof now with just us 2 ..

I can relate to your dilemma .. :flowerforyou:

I too am here to gain weight, although I have a different problem as to why I have trouble gaining and maintaining. I have found that trying to eat a 2000 cal a day diet helps. Also keeping track of how many calories that are burned in a day and eating them back could lead a person to gain weight. Best of luck!!

    Welcome to MFP!

I believe that MFP will be good for you in that, as long as you're honest, you'll be able to find out what your caloric intake, vitamins, minerals, fats, carbs, etc. are over time. This will help you figure out where your diet may be off, and if anything will help you have more informative talks with your doctor during routine physicals.

As for your problem of being underweight... well, I used to be that way when I was a younger man as well. I was highly active, worked outside, and was generally very fit and healthy. Note that I said "used to be"... now, I'm not nearly as active, have a desk job, and am now on the flip-side of that coin. Don't worry too much about your weight, but rather about what your body is telling you...

I hope you find out all the good links to fitness and tracking and ... well, just about anything that you can think of. Make sure to search the forums as there's a ton of great information out there.

I have a similar goal as you. I am starting Body Beast today. It is a 90 day program from Beachbody (of P90X fame) It is designed to pack on muscle mass. You may want to check it out on their website. I am a Beachbody coach.

We are starting a challenge group as well. The location of that group is http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/9844-body-beast-challenge-group
