Okay, the company I work for was just bought. Everything is for the better (like insurance rates getting cut IN HALF, and still BETTER than old company) or so I thought. Sale goes through December 1st.

We get an email stating that since we are moving from twice a month pay current to bi-weekly arrears, that the paycheck on December 14th will be for ONE WEEK....MERRY EFFING CHRISTMAS!!!

Now they say that they understand that it's December so they will offer us a one week pay advance so that we aren't screwed...BUT...they will take 4 hours from our pay for 10 pay periods in 2013 to make up for that. HAPPY EFFING NEW YEAR!!!

Holy hell, what the crap do I do??!!

I have a plan...but damn, 40 hours of pay right before Christmas??? That can't be legal, but I guess it's the same as an employer holding a week back before you get your first check in retail.

This world of ours is based on one thing and it is not the wellbeing of it's workers. My work made an error with my pay, that I pointed out to them as soon as I spotted it. On the 25th they took £600 from my salary in one fell swoop, "you owe the money gotta be paid in one lump" despite the fact that it is their error and that they paid it over 4 months, merry fkn xmas indeed.

so usually you get your pay check in advance (for 2 weeks?)
everywhere where I worked I got paid after performing so in my case, that would change nothing, I would get money more often, but it wouldnt be less...

ETA: not beeing mean here, just curious

Holding back pay isn't just a retail thing. Every company I've worked for does this. I get paid weekly, and the check I will receive on the 30th is for the week ending on the 24th.

Do you have some savings you can use to fill the gap?

They way I got paid from the old company:

I worked from Dec 1-14, if I get paid on the 14th I get paid Dec 1-14th. I'm paid on a current basis, twice a month (so February really sucks as the last check is usually only 72 hours). So sometimes it's an 88 hour check, sometimes it's 80, sometimes it's 96.

Because of the transition (I understand how it works, it's just sucking to go through this), I get paid for one week of work instead of being paid current due to how the pay stuff falls.

I am severely pay check to pay check and need every cent. I literally have no 401k because I can't afford to even put 3% in. So savings of 40 hours of pay is NOT something I am able to handle without alot of juggling and payment deferments.

Thankfully we are about done with Christmas shopping.
