Las Vegas Rock and Roll-December 2, 2012 my first 1/2

I've been running (again) since January, and in March a friend asked if I would want to consider the Vegas Rock and Roll- so I began training for the 1/2. I've lost a total of 24 pounds since Christmas 2011, survived two running injuries and manage to have three months where I ran 100 miles each. I had set a lofty goal of finishing in 2 hours, and have since (at the advice of others) changed my goal and my mindset. My last long run would have me finishing at 2:15 which makes me happy even if in real race conditions it doesn't happen I'm happy I've improved that much.
In February I ran 1.66 miles with a 13 minute pace, and now I can run 6 miles with a pace at 9:30 and I can run 15 miles 11:30 pace (September), and 10 to 12 miles with a 10:23 pace. I’ve seen my body changing, my mood changing, and I see my children and husband noticing the difference too. I still have 10-15 pounds to go and my real goal is to run 50 miles before I’m 50 but I’m very happy with this year.
Looking back at this year I have triumphed over injury (bursitis, and almost being run over by a car), over my own mind games, over the outside voices of nay-sayers and I feel like this has been a very successful year of fitness and firmly believe it will continue. To anyone just starting out… I began with less than two miles and I hit the road almost every day despite the fact I hated being seen because I was too ‘fat’, and kept going. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Good luck to you and congrats on reaching your goals. I have friends coming to town this week participating in it. I wanted to walk the half but the price is so steep. Weather should be fairly nice too.0
