Dietary Fiber vs. Insoluble Fiber

Hey guys. Just a quick nutrition question. When I'm looking at the fiber content of some products, they list both dietary fiber AND insoluble fiber. I just want to make sure I have the right idea here. Dietary fiber is what I want to be looking at, correct? Insoluble fiber would be the fiber that is not soluble in water and therefore passes through your system un-utilized.

Dietary fiber is the main overall term and insoluble fiber is one of the two types of dietary fiber. The other type is soluble fiber. You need both types for good health! If you are looking to make sure you get enough fiber per standard nutritional guidelines, count the dietary fiber as that is what they are looking for. As long as you are getting your fiber from a wide variety of types of foods, and getting enough overall dietary fiber, it is highly likely that you are getting enough of both of the sub-types of fiber.0
