    Yes, he's a heart surgeon and he became popular on Oprah because he has a way of explaining medical things so people can understand it.

    I think he gets a bum wrap because he's so popular. He supports presenting information for the purpose of being informed and trying to make informed, well thought out decisions. He presents both sides of things, like different types of diet plans (like the hcg diet), and challenges people to make their own research, have discussions with their doctors and make well-informed, well thought out decisions. He's also very up-beat. Anytime someone is popular, and up-beat, there are going to be "negative nellies and doubting thomas's" trying to bring them down. BUT I think he presents a lot of great information in a useful, understandable way, and is all about people finding what works for them.

    Yeah - I used to like Dr. Phil, but I think he's gone to the "dark side" towards sensationalism - feels like he's on the way to becoming the next Jerry Springer.

    No...he gets a bum rap because he's a sellout who will endorse just about every "lose weight quick" scam that comes down the pike for the right price (do you think his endorsement of raspberry ketones is because he wants people to 'be informed', or because he's getting PAID?). Unfortunately, all kinds the bored, stuck at home housewives are shelling out money for this 'miracle method' and everyone is getting rich (except the people being scammed, of course).

    I don't doubt that he started out in the beginning with good intentions, but now he's just turned into a joke!

    He's a clown with an MD who got popular by going on Oprah and scaring housewives into thinking everything they touch or eat will kill them.
