Hi! I am starting a juice fast today in order to jump start a new healthier lifestyle. I plan on doing this for at least 3 days but I would like for it to last longer. Has anyone juiced before? I would love some helpful tips!

I would suggest, jumpstarting your new lifestyle by practicing the lifestyle that you wish to sustain. Fasting for long periods like that will do nothing but mess up your metabolism, and if you do lose any weight from it, most of it will be water and you will put it back on as soon as you introduce solid foods. Speaking from experience.
Figure out a healthy deficit, and get to work on your goals the healthy way.0 -
Enema cleanse would probably offer more benefits than a juice cleanse, unless you were using juice in the enema.0

I would highly recommend watching the movie "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" google it, you can watch it free online! There are also a lot of free recipes for juices! Hopefully you have a juicer and are not drinking store bought juice, because they are loaded with sugar! I purchased a Nutribullet and drink a "nutriblast" every morning! I've tried a liquid diet before and I missed chewing so I never was able to do it for the set number of days, but good luck! Oh also, I find that I have to have my mid morning snack because I will be ravenous come lunch time, so you will have to juice every couple of hours or you'll be extremely hungry! Hope this helps!0

I like juice... but I like to chew my meals too... so juice usually just accompanies my meals.0

First I would like to say great job on working towards a healthier and happier lifestyle. I would recommend trying to find a more sustainable approach to weightloss. A juice "cleanse" may get you results but none that are going to last a lifetime. Best of luck to you with whatever route you choose to take.0

Yes, a super rich guy with nothing else to do but drink juice go across the country and work out all the time. I think I would have no problem dropping weight.
I'd rather work on dealing with how I have been eating and making a commitment to that.0 -
Not the healthiest approach. There really is no jump-start. When you put hard work in, results will happen. Be patient and you'll reach your goal.

You get what you pay for.
I have a guy friend who watched this movie. He then got some hair brained idea from it and juice fasted for 30 days. He was so handsome and muscular before. Now he looks sick and he lost about 30 pounds of his lean body mass. What a dumb idea. I personally have worked WAY to hard for my muscle and strength, no I way I am going to sacrifice my muscle TYVM. I prefer to lose fat, by doing it the correct way.
Create a healthy deficit, watch your macros, and strength train. Its really as easy as that people.0 -
A cleanse like that is just quackery. It's not good for you, it's not a good frame of mind to start a healthy eating plan in and, ultimately, it will slow your metabolism and cause you to gain weight (it will also peak and crash your blood sugar, which means if you slip up, you'll slip up HARD, and if you don't, you'll be utterly miserable!). Our liver and kidneys are there to cleanse our bodies; buying into fad diets does us no good.
Start as you mean to go on.0 -

Good for you on the rest of your post, AmandaElaine - you're going about it the right way! Losing lean body mass isn't desirable at all - it's a lot easier to keep what you have than to try to put it back on after you've lost it. Building muscle is a lot slower and more difficult than maintaining what you have.
In regards to juice fasts, cleanses, etc. - it never ceases to amaze me the unhealthy things people will do to their bodies in the name of "health".0 -

I prefer to juice slow... that way I can savor the flavor longer
Sage advice0 -
If only I had a dollar for every thread that I've read that's starts with ...'Hi I'm starting a juice/fast to "JUMP START" my weight loss'. Arghhhhhhh.
What benefit or 'jump start' do you think drinking juice for 3 or more days is going to do for you?
Zero.
There is no cleansing benefit. No real weight loss. And no 'jump start'.
Just hunger, deprivation and maybe if you drink a lot of juice...diarrhea. Yay!
Jump start you're new lifestyle by eating healthy, staying in your calorie deficit, drinking lot's of water and exercising. There's no need for drastic deficits or liquid diets.0 -
I had the squirts for the last three days. I blame the 3-day-old Subway sandwich my kid didn't finish, that I ended up finishing. It was in the fridge the whole time, so I thought it would be okay. It was tasty -- Spicy Italian -- the $5 sub for November.
Why would someone willingly induce the squirts by consuming nothing but juice?

The most useful piece of advice I can give you is to see it for what it is: a psychological boost and do not extend it beyond three days.
You won't lose much fat (or muscle mass for that matter) in three days on your fast. The main losses will be water and glycogen. That will show up on the scale undoubtedly.
I get why you are doing it and if you want to do so then go for it. Hopefully, once you have that psychological boost banked you will transition to a more healthy and beneficial way of achieving permanent fat loss.
Good luck.0 -
I did it a juice fast for three days. The biggest benefit I got from it; it reduced my cravings for junk food. I subscribe to the mentality, 'you crave what you eat'. At the end of my three days I pretty much just wanted to eat fresh fruit & veggies. I will also add; it was expensive & a complete pain in the neck!!0

Thank you to everyone who had something positive to say. I didn't know this website was so full of people who wanted to put others down. I can understand if you disagree, but there are better ways of letting your opinions be known than being extremely negative.0

I am a fan of a juice fast or eating fruits and veggies for a few days. You do whatever works for you. For me doing that really helped shrink my appetite, so I can start my new journey.

Hi Courtney!
I LOVE to fast, although I've never done it for more than 3 days....it gives the body a break from digesting food and can help remove a lot of accumulated "crud". I usually do the same juice for 3 days, just "mix" it up a little....I have a Jack LaLanne juicer and I juice...Kale, celery, carrots, apples, lemon, ginger, beets, parsley, cilantro, romaine lettuce, spinach. Sometimes I put all of that together, some times I just add most of those items.
Sorry people were so negative...people fast for a variety of reasons, a jump start to a diet program, SURE! Religious reasons SURE, trying to heal themselves from disease SURE!
Send me a friend request if you want some more information or support
Take care!

Ginger and cilantro sounds yummy, but the ginger always intimidates me in the produce section. Do you chop it up, peel it, not sure how to utilize fresh ginger!0 -
Hi Caramel 1920....you can just take a chunk and throw it in your juicer....one thing I did want to mention is if you juice, please try and get organic produce, if you cannot, then it is important to peel your veggies, and of course wash everything really good. Ginger is amazing and sooooo good for you!0
