Menopausal and ready to be healthy!

Hello I am 48 years old and menopausal to boot! I am ready to take responsibility for my health. For many reasons I never cared about my weight or over all health. Eating right and exercise was for those other girls. Well let me tell you how wrong I have been. First of all menopause has not been a fun experience for me. If there is a symptom I'm pretty sure I have experienced it. To add insult to injury a friend recently posted pictures of me at the beach. At first I thought that it was someone else but was horrified to realize it was me. Someone might say that my friend pulled a cruel joke on me? I'm pretty sure it was innocent and don't view it that way at all. Those pictures were my wake up call. Granted I have never been waif thin but after seeing those pictures I started to take notice and discovered that I am 80 lbs overweight? Needless to say embarrassment has been enough of a motivator to start paying attention to my eating habits and strive for a healthier lifestyle! I welcome any words of advice and hope to develop friends along the way that can help keep me focused and motivated!

I am new here also, and at 54, thankfully I am "On the other side" of menopause, and I would not want to go back there; it was rough! But I made it; and you will too! I totally relate to not recognizing yourself in pictures, I have been in denial for awhile about how out-of-hand my excess weight has become, and I am determined to reach & maintain a healthy weight so that I can enjoy active things with family & friends.
Having lost weight too many times to count , what has worked for me is being mindful about eating- keeping a daily food log, finding exercise that's fun and you enjoy doing, and eating more veggies & fruits and gradually reducing the junk food.
I'm not sure how the friends thing works here, but I'd be happy to be one of your buddies on the journey to a healthy weight!
    Best wishes,
    Joan

ahhh menopause - hot flashes, mood swings, no sleep (at least I don't have night sweats yet) -- welcome ladies
I too never "noticed" size until seeing pictures - it is amazing what the mind tells you until your eyes go hey look here

You both made the first step - feel free to friend me if you want positive encouragement with the occasional kick in the butt

I lost 70 pounds as I went through menopause! No speed records here. Just healthy changes, being accountable, and sticking to the program. Check out my profile for more info on how. You can do it. You just need a solid plan and to follow through, NO EXCUSES! Excuses are enablers of failure.
