Is this spotty lettuce safe to eat?

It doesn't smell or taste any different that I can tell; although I am using a new dressing so maybe that would hide the difference. The texture seems off and it's covered in transparent spots. This is from one of those salad mix bags. I just bought it yesterday and opened it just now.

  • If its slimy, then HELL no! Looks like it may have froze a little in the fridge, happens often with those pre-mixed bags!

I agree. I've seen leaves look like that when the bag gets put too far back in the fridge so that they ice up a bit. I'm sure they're safe to eat.

it's not worth having the runs tell you that you should have ditched it

Did you store the bagged lettuce in the back of the fridge? If not, the lettuce could be bad. I have noticed the grocery stores always put the bagged lettuce that is about to expire on sale.

As long as the bag has a expiration date that has not come up you are fine, it is just wilted lettuce from being too cold...usually those bags are given 10-15 days of freshness (that includes transportation to the grocery store)

Thank you all so much! I noticed that the fridge is set awfully low so I sneaked and changed it (work fridge).

Just say no to lettuce! Eat baby spinach instead!
