I stared seeing a massage therapist last year when I had an IT band issue and she helped me get back to running. I've been going monthly for a 1hr session since then.
She specializes in sports therapy and uses active release techniques. While the session itself can be somewhat unpleasant (you feel like you got hit by a truck when you leave) and you want to do it the day before a light activity day the results are remarkable.
My therapist also instructed me on the proper use of a foam roller and stretching / exercise techniques specifically for my IT band and I've been running injury free since.0 -
great stuff... he said I've that it band thing as well...he did a bit of work onnit today but it was excruciating...felt like he was pressing down on swollen bruises. ...ouch...!! I'm going to nonce a week until this pain is sorted!!0

I feel your pain, excruciating is a good way to describe how my first couple of sessions felt.0
