'someones hungry'

I just wanted to say what a horrible insult i think this is to be bandied round a website like this. I see it a lot, I have even had it said to me.

I am bordering on morbidly obese (actually i'm not anymore i was when i joined up) and my fitness and eating regime means i am having to help my body learn the different between hunger, thirst and bordem.

For someone to say 'Your grouchy eat a sandwich' to me, because they disagree with me on a fitness forum i think is absolutely disgusting.

Similar to all these 'dont bother with cardio' posts. Well actually if someone like me has bothered to get up and do something, thats a good thing, if someone like me is not thinking about food for a minute, thats a good thing too.

Please can we all try and read our posts and make sure they are actually supportive to everyone else? Or why are we here?

People are generally just trying to be helpful. If you interpret that help as a negative then it would be your issue and not theirs.

Lifting weights has many benefits over cardio. People advise this because they've seen post after post about skinny fat people.

Eating more to lose weight is proven when done correctly. Starving yourself does not mean you will get results, a healthy balanced diet does so if someones telling you to eat more the chances are you're not eating enough and they've been there and done that.

It's often because many of the people that defend their 1200 calorie diets then later whinge about being hungry.

As for the advice regarding strength training, you could ignore the advice, then when you get to the size you want to be realise you're still 'flabby' and set your goal even lower to try and get that body you always wanted, and end up in a vicious circle.

People on this site are all here to help, although I do agree the way some attempt to do this can be somewhat blunt, even rude at times.

Ah.... another lets all be supportive and **** rainbows/unicorns post.

We are here to count calories, lose weight and learn... and sometimes that learning involves hearing things we don't like to hear but need to hear.

My suggestion to you(like it is to any person who whines about this) if you don't like the forums, then stay off them.

Add friends who you deem supportive, and stick to your homepage and friends list only.

The internet is a free place, and there will be jerks everywhere... and whining about it and telling everyone to be nice, is going to get you no where.

Crikey give this person a break, ignore the haters if what you're doing is working for you stick to it, everyone has they're own methods (personally I like cardio but probably should do weights), if things aren't working and you have asked for help people will tell you to change things, but I agree there's no need to be a arsehole about it, the reason most of us are here is because of our ignorance of how to lose weight.

I'm trying to be really nice...You say your hungry...I checked out your food diary...I'm by no means an expert but your breast feeding and what you've eaten in the last three days...I'd be starving too! Check out some sites:flowerforyou: on a balanced diet for a breast feeding Mom. I'm really trying to be helpful! Friend me if you like. I agree, anything you can do will help!! This is a good site with lots of good info'. I'll be waiting to hear from you. Jen

I also dont care for the "your hungry eat something" comments when in reality you're just having a bad day and ranting. If Im hungry I'll eat - If I'm *****y I'll rant - however as others have said - it's a forum - everyone has opinions and everyone has the right to voice them - you have the right to listen to it or not - it's your choice - you dont like what someone's saying - stay away from the forums or just ignore it. But getting bent out of shape about a usually tongue in cheek comment made by someone they've never met nor ever will is just a collosal waste of time and energy - I for one would rather put that energy to better use.
  • Well done OP!

Each person needs to do what's right for them at the time.

Many people here suffer from eating disorders, not simply over or under eating.

WHY do people feel they need to stick to 1200 calories? Is there an issue?

The unsupportive comments and jabs at people who feel the need to stick to 1200 calories, I FEEL, are often rude and insensitive.

Note, I say 'I feel' because this is my personal feeling and being told that my feeling is wrong would again show an insensitivity by others.

Yes, for MANY months I was a 1200 calorie person. It worked for me AND I kept most of the weight off. I did not hit a plateau, nor did I regularly feel hungry. People often ask how I lost weight and I tell them. Would I do it differently if I did it over again... NO!

I wasnt actually talking about calories or eating exercise calories, I am talking about people disagreeing (about anything at all) on the forum and one of them saying 'oh you seem a bit grouchy why dont you eat a sandwich you must be hungry' as an insult.

I just dont think its appropriate, like its not appropriate to call someone fat

I am amazed someone has looked at my diary (by the way) and says i am not eating enough, I am eating around 1800 calories + breastfeeding calories.

My weight loss is fine, its not something i am worried about. What does worry me is this habit of telling people 'oh you must be hungry' if you think they are getting passionate or upset about something, in the same way you would tell a woman she is 'hormonal' or whatever, I just dont think its a polite thing to say on a fitness forum where people may be struggling with eating disorders etc.

As for the cardio thing, its different to say 'i think you should lift weights' to saying 'cardio is pointless dont bother' if someone (like me) has got the energy and forethought to get up and run round the block they should be commended, not told their efforts are 'pointless'

I didn't mean you weren't eating enough calories...I meant it's what you eat. Lots of drinks, no real food. Sorry??? Jen

Erm... I think we read totally different diaries then! Seems to be food on the ones I saw...

If your milk supply is good, please ignore anyone telling you you should be doing something different.

Its really not that i am worried about people suggesting what i eat/dont eat

its just that i keep seeing people say to others 'your quite grouchy must be hungry' or something similar if someone says something they disagree with

which i just find to be such a nasty insult on a fitness forum where people are trying to lose weight.

I just dont think its pleasant at all x

You're on the internet, it's mostly populated with jerks and pictures of cats :)

You just have to let the stupid slide off you, can't get caught up in the people who are all in your face (when they're hiding behind a computer screen)

    Or why are we here?
I'm here to LEARN, not to be supported.
I don't want people to be supportive of things they believe are negative.
But if I believe they are wrong in their suggestions, I will provide evidence to support my belief of "the way it is".

However, none of that means that I would discuss things as you have described in your first post.

Sadly, people think being a d!ck on an internet forum is funny and will impress their friends.

It's not funny or impressive, you're just being a d!ck

Edit: I should point out that I'm talking about fairly extreme cases. I'm all for a good laugh and a healthy dose of sarcasm on a frequent basis, but after a point the comedy gets lost and people start to look like complete idiots.

I can sort of kind of understand that. Its just when its used totally out of context to 'have a pop' at people obviously really trying that i find sort of harsh.
