Do all HRM have chest bands?

I admittedly don't know much about HRM. My mom has an older POLAR and it has a chest band. I googled a few pics and they all seem to have chest bands. Seems like they'd be very uncomfortable. Is that just the price one pays for accurate HRM results?

Do any not require chest bands? If so, are they just at good/accurate?

You need the chest band for any kind of accuracy. The new Polar chest band is made of a really soft material and once it's on you really don't feel it.

There are a few pieces of clothing with built in HRM sensors too.
And at least one company makes an optical arm band that uses bluetooth to transmit (so you've got to use a phone to read it)

The was a company that was/has come out with one that is a wrist unit. Of course they say it's accurate but haven't seen it on the market so no third party reviews yet. There have been wrist units in the past with poor accuracy.

I have both a Polar and a Timex and both chest bands are comfortable and hardly noticeable.
