New member recently diagnosed with diabetes

Hi everyone! My name is Sondra and I'm 46 yo and got the news Monday that I'm diabetic. I will see a dietitian next week but have been tracking my food using myfitnesspal. According to the recommendations provided, I'm eating way to much protein and not enough carbs. I'm confused because if I eat all fruits and veggies my calories are not high enough.

For example, today I had 1/4 cup cooked ground meat, 1 string cheese, 1/2 chicken breast, skim milk and 1 protein drink as a snack and my protein was very high. I ate lots of veggies and 1 apple and 1 orange and my carbs are too low. Any diabetics out there than can give me some pointers.

Also if the dietitian tells me my daily allowance for carbs/fats/protein should be lower than recommended on this site, is there a way for me to adjust the daily allowance accordingly?
