I do not know where to start!

Ok I somewhat feel out of place here but then again I don't. I am only 4'11 and I only weigh 110 pounds BUT my fat percentage is very high and I have little muscle. I currently am wearing a size 6 in pants when I was a size 1 this time last year. I want to start to eat healthier and get back into shape but I dont know where to begin. I started to choose healthier snacks but I quickly deviated when I ate one junk food item. I started walking too and I am currently up to 1.5 miles (which hurts really bad the next day)

Also I feel I should mention I am a waitress so I am around food ALL the time.

    Hi. Good for you for walking 1.5 miles! That's great! Plus all the exercise you get at work, right? Do you eat at work when you're there? Where do you work, btw? Any way you can take your own food or get something made to your specifics? I know it's hard to not just fall off completely when you eat something unplanned but you've GOT to get right back up! Start where you left off b/c it's not gonna kill you. We all have moments like that...It's what we do afterwards that counts! Right? Feel free to friend me and we can talk more.     You should try to eat at a slight calorie deficit and strength train.

    If you are a waitress, you should select very active as your activity setting, pick only 1/2lb to lose and eat most of your exercise calories back.

    Keep this going for at least 4 weeks and if your weight loss is not as expected, tweak accordingly.

    One easy way to start is to pick a program and follow it. Any good program will teach you some about nutrition, exercise, and motivation.

    I'm a fan of The New Rules of Lifting for Women because it lays out an easy-to-follow plan that won't eat up all your time. It also covers plenty of basics about diet & exercise in the beginning of the book.

    Find one that works for you.

    Also, what hurts after the walking--feet, knees? Are you walking outside or on a treadmill? What kind of shoes are you wearing? You might want to get shoes with better support. Also, try some gentle stretches after you walk.

  • I work at Outback Steakhouse....sooooo many bad foods! And I see my coworkers munching on cheese fries and bloom and I just wantt to jump all over it! It is so hard to avoid it.
  • After I walk my inner thighs hurt. As I walk my muscles become very itchy and I have to stop and take a break. But what is weird about my muscles itching that it only happens when I do cardio. I wear nike dual fusion shoes.

    A fitness plan is hard work and takes lots of commitment...I am just beginner and I know how you feel! I find keeping the food log helps me see what I eat daily. Maybe doing some stretching before and after your walk may help your muscles. Good luck :-)

    We seem to have a few things in common. I am small, too. I am 5'1" 101lbs. I am not looking to loose weight (obviously) but I want to tone up. Consistency is my problem. I have a hard time with it. I have strong legs, but no upper body strength. When I run, I also get the itchy thing. My legs become red, blotchy, and itchy. It drives me crazy. Recently, I started adding pilates and a dance aerobics workout to my weekly zumba class. I also do yoga, love it. Add me as a friend and we can help support eachother. Btw, I used to work at Chili's as a server, so I know how you feel. I also lost 5 lbs since I stopped working there. Good luck with running, and let me know if the itchiness goes away :smile:
