Sometimes feel sick in the mornings (not pregnant)

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I figured this was as good of a spot as any. Lately, I have been trying to transition into maintenance. I've been struggling to get in all of my calories. I usually work out in the mornings wearing a heart rate monitor and my calorie burn is usually 300-400 calories. After my workout, I shower and go to work. When I get there I have breakfast. Lately, it's been a whey protein shake made with milk and an apple or something. Every once in a while shortly after I get to work, I feel sick. I usually have a headache and feel nauseated. I just work through it, do what I normally do and eventually it just goes away. Even though I'm in maintenance now (or trying), this happened periodically when I was in my losing stage too. Do you think it could be something I'm doing? If yes, why does it only happen once in a while?

I would say add something a little more substantial to the breakfast. Maybe oatmeal? A piece of whole grain toast? See if that helps.0

I feel nasueas every morning but I also take a buttload of vitamins. Change things up and see what works for you.0

I am not sure, I do too feel sick sometimes, really nauseous, enough so that I have to skip breakfast altogether some days...I don't usually have a headache and stuff though, are you rehydrating adequately?0

I feel nauseous when I am very hungry. Maybe you should get some food into your system before working out?0

Not that this was what you're implying is happening to you, but from personal experience, I know that I can get very nauseous if I don't follow up my morning vitamins with a good breakfast. The green tea vitamins from one a day....forget about it. Literally running to the toilet in a panicy way with what I would liken to morning sickness. Needless to say, I switched vitamins, and never take one if I'm not prepared to have breakfast with it.0

I had that happen to me a few years ago with green tea One-A-Days, where I would literally have to sit with my head between my knees and breathe deeply, then go take Tums, so as not to throw up. I actually called Bayer (because I was rather annoyed at having spent $15 on a huge thing of vitamins that I could no longer take), and they apologized and said that those vitamins don't sit well with a certain number of people. They sent me a bunch of really good coupons for other Bayer products as an apology, but since I don't take a lot of medicines, I didn't have much use for them. When I switched to a different vitamin, I was fine.
To the OP, it just sounds like you're not eating enough - and I don't mean calorie-wise, but bulk-wise. I used to have that problem, especially on days when I worked out in the morning. I know the protein shake with fruit is easy when you get to work, but I would try something a little bulkier. I like Kashi GoLean Crunch cereal in the AM even better than I do my breakfast sandwiches (like Egg McMuffins, but with egg whites and light cheese). For some reason, they take longer to eat, and my stomach feels fuller (and thus better) afterwards.0 -
Thanks everyone for the quick replies! I'm pretty sure that I'm getting more than enough water in, but maybe I should try getting a more substantial breakfast in. That might help me get my calories up overall for the whole day too. I know this might be naughty, but I don't take any vitamins... would just a women's multivitamen be good enough? I have also recently started drinking green tea for the health benefits, so thank you for reminding me that I haven't had that yet this morning! Thanks again everyone, and thank you to anyone else who gives me some more advice!0

I'd try getting a small amount of food in before your workout. A small yogurt or a banana would work. You're probably over hungry and a bit dehydrated from not eating over night and then waiting so long for some food. I like to workout in a fasted state but it can be a fine line sometimes between feeling good and going past needing food to nausea.0

I'm gonna play devils advocate and tell you to stop working out in the mornings and see if that helps. Just for a week. You may just not be able to workout in a fasted state. If shifting your workouts to later in the day helps, it means you need to eat something 30 minutes before you do your morning workout.0
