i know that's a very general question, so here is my situation. i could never do a proper push-up even in my youth, and at present, it is a struggle to do 8 to 10 proper modified 'knee' push-ups. has anyone gone from being able to do none to being able to kick them out like it ain't no thing? is it solely a strength thing, or will it become easier and easier as i lose weight? has anyone gone through this already?

of course it will be easier as you lose weight but there are ways to help yourself, my wife trying to do push ups too, she has to be able to do 7 for basic training (military), you want to do triceps and biceps exercises 3-4 times a day. I suggest "biceps 21"(2 sets 0f 8-14), with dumbells or a barbell, You do 7 lower half biceps curl, 7 upper half and 7 complete (google bicep curl to see how they are done). For triceps, my wife does "back scratches" (3 sets of 8-15) and dips (3 set).
How long it takes is all depending on the efforts ou put in;)
Good luck!
P.S.: I'm sure if you google it, you'll find all kinds of push-p exercises on the web0 -

Stick with your program and work on losing weight, building arm strength and building core/ab strength - and work those modified pushups.
As you go forward you will get lighter and stronger and those modified pushups will get easier, and then one day you'll get down to do your modd-ies and this little voice will say "Let's try it!"... and you'll be able to do one. Probably just one! So do one, then get the knees down and finish your workout with modd'ies, no problem. In a couple days you'll be able to do 2. Then 3 - and so on.
How long will it take? Who knows,,, depends on how hard you work and what condition you're in now. But I'm sure you can get there. Stick with and it'll come, and probably more quickly than you think. :happy:0 -
You can start by doing wall push-ups, then on an exercise bench, then from your knees and finally from your toes. Concentrate on your form, meaning your whole body forms a plank - your butt should not stick up or sag. It takes time, more for some than for others. The first time I tried push-ups I couldn't even do one. Now I can do about 20 with good form, and 20 more after a 30 second break, but I'm working on doing more. Arm exercises definitely help. Good luck! :flowerforyou:0
