Plateau, desperation, help!

Okay. I've been off MFP for a while mostly because my laptop has been acting crazy. Now that things are back to working order, I am now here. So, I lost 60lbs. before I got pregnant last October. I gained 30lbs. with my daughter, but I dropped all of it within a month - mostly baby weight - only to go back to my pre-preg. weight, which I am not complaining about, but I have been STUCK here forever, and over Thanksgiving I gained 5lbs., but I've also not been hydrating my body, so I assume that might be a little bit water retention... I am stuck. I have a fussy baby, too, so I've been snacking on what's quick... horrible idea, I know. I'm pretty discouraged and just need a little motivation from fellow MFP members. I feel like I'm just going to be stuck here forever, and I'm trying so hard to get that motivation back that I had right before I got pregnant. I'm just so tired and sluggish =/

Help! =(

  • We've all been there (I am stuck as well). You mentioned that you have been busy with the baby so you snack on what's quick...one suggestion I have for this would be to maybe make up little baggies of healthy quick snacks. If anything this will at least help control portion size. Veggies, cereal, nuts, etc. Hope this helps!
  • That is a good idea. Sometimes I will take a quick hand-full of cereal to snack on, shredded wheat... I need to really get my stuff together, because it's starting to get depressing... and I am not the type to sit around and feel sorry for myself.

Thanks so much for your post =)

I definitely agree with the prepared snacks. Pick a night, like a Saturday or Sunday, and make up a week's worth of snack baggies. If you want to go the next step, label or group them by the time of day you want to snack on them. For example, maybe you are busiest between breakfast and lunch. Have some high protein and fiber snacks so you will stay full until lunch. Random snacking is the root of most plateauing. Also, check out parenting sites and family sites. There are lots of useful tips on how to incorporate playtime with exercise time. That way your child can be active, and you can do a full workout while still keeping a close eye on your child. Good luck, and most importantly, make sure you have fun doing whatever you do!

How much do you eat, and what do you eat? What is your weight loss goal? How much do you exercise, and what do you do? Your profile is blocked so it's going to be very difficult for people to help you without having some info. There are so many reasons for plateaus that it's hard to just provide a general answer to this.

babby carrots are easy snacks. i also like animal crackers. i have a 3 week old baby and 2 toddlers at home. i find it easy to grab a handful of animal crackers when i'm pumping or feeding the baby they are not to bad for cal's and there are a lot worse options out there in terms of snacks (i get the huge containers from sam's club. my kids like them too. and i would rather give animal crackers then chips/cookies etc).

i watched the baby weight melt off a pound a day then it just platoed for a few days and has slowly started coming off again. but i have fought with weight for years. finally after 3 weeks things were calmed down enough so i could take the dog for a walk. and i have to admit it was hard at first for me to not do housework instead. you may have to tell yourself it's ok to leave some dishes in the sink or laundry unfolded so you can walk or what not. and as for the kids. i had just pumped, the older 2 were in their rooms for quiet time, and i told hubby i was going for a walk and he was in charge of the baby! i didn't give him a choice :) not that he would really put up a fight anyway.

you could enlist friends/family a few times a week so you could walk etc.....maybe do a babysitting trade off with a friend when you are feeling up to it. as far as food goes. i was super healthy eating then baby came and i just don't have time to prepare food like i did right now. so i have had to sadley turn to frozen entrees some nights (i stocked my freezer before baby was due so we had easy things to make.) but i also stocked my freezer with frozen veggies. i may use a meat and gravy thing for dinner but i also load it with veggies mixed right in. i use instand potatoes but i use mashed califlower for half of them. a easy homemade potpie is only 600 cals for half of it (the recipe i use). and i froze a lot of veggies this fall so i can make things like fajitas fairly quickly as well.

hopefully as things calm down you can start eating healhtier and working out on a schedule. i have not had a fussy baby but he has had some health issues that kept us at the docs pretty much all of his first 2 weeks and we have had nursing issues from the beggining so that takes a lot of time. i feel that the most important things is to make sure you and anyone you are in charge of i.e. kids are being feed. if you have to turn to some not so healhty items don't feel bad just try to make it as healhty as you can by adding veggies. and fruit. apples and bananas are a easy add on to snacks and lunchs etc....

I agree with making sure that you are prepared and have good healthy stuff to snack on. And don't just grab a handful of something when you are hungry, take the extra second to weigh/measure it and log it. Those little bites here and there add up a lot quicker than you used to. These used to be a big problem for me, but now I make sure and log every bite I eat so that it does not get away from me.
