Spitting out my food

I eat healthy and really try to stay away from my Devil.. Sweets.. But sometimes I can help it...But If I were to eat them I could not stop at just one.. I would have to eat more and more... Have any of you ever put something in your mouth that was bad and just chewed on it for a while when you get a craving soooooooooo bad you can't stand it and then just feel afraid to swallow it and spit it out? LOL I am so afraid of my Devil! But he keeps calling me to come to him :(

No. I haven't spit food out. But if I felt like I was going to eat more than I should. I have just thrown food out.

Unless you have very healthy self-esteem, my advice is to leave this topic behind and don't look back. :flowerforyou:

Chew/spit can be an eating disordered behavior and can become addictive. For your own health, just try to work sweets into your day if you really want them that day. On days you go over your deficit by a bit, remember that you won't gain if you stay at or under TDEE. One day even over TDEE won't hurt you.

I did this a lot when I had an eating disorder. So yeah, watch yourself closely! :flowerforyou:

Chew/spitting is categorized as an eating disorder, much like bulimia.

Please be careful. Stop before you start.
  • yeah my first reaction is that's not a healthy habit... seems like it's only a stone's throw from throwing it up. It also seems like it's kind of a waste of food. Saying you chew but don't eat the food is like clinton saying he smoked but did not inhale.... know what i mean? just try your hardest to avoid those things - don't buy them, don't keep them in the house, and have healthier choices around like fruit or yogurt or even some hundred calorie brownie type thing.... idk. but spitting it out doesn't seem like a good long-term solution to your problem. good luck =)

I also think 'just say no' isn't always the best thing. It can lead to the kind of cravings you're having.

If you could learn to say 'yes! I'd LOVE a small taste' you'd be happier. But put that devil BEHIND you after the taste.

One time when I was cooking I remember popping something into my mouth mindlessly (I can't even remember now what it was). As soon as it hit my tongue I was like "What are you doing??" and I spat it out. Lol! I was kind of proud of myself, I'm usually such a grazer, I didn't even realise half the stuff I was eating. I couldn't imagine knowing chewing on something just to spit it out though. That doesn't seem healthy.

^I like this idea! I was helping out at a church thing this morning and all these older ladies brought cake and doughnuts and AAALLLL kinds of baked goods that I'm sure were AWESOME. They kept trying to push their treats on me so finally I said OK and just took a small rice crispy treat. It was the littlest one and also probably the least fattening, but it shut them up and boy was it yummy lol

I have put something in my mouth that looked amazingly yummy only to discover that it was barely marginal and spit it out because it wasn't worth the calories. Like biting into a chocolate-covered caramel only to discover that it's actually one of those rum raisin things. EW! Pa-tuie! If I'm going to ingest high-calorie treats, I want them to rock my world, not curl my tongue.

But I think that's a bit different from what you're describing ... I agree you need to be careful not to build dangerous habits. Sounds like you realize that.

Ahahaha yes I've spit out rum raisin See's candy. I just spit out yucky stuff. Not worth the calories or the gross out. Like my DH likes this dried seaweed snacks from Trader Joe's. I don't really like seaweed like on sushi, but I eat it. So, thought the seaweed snack would be fine. I placed it on my tongue and just like a 2 year old I pushed it right back out with my tongue with no care as to wear it fell. DH nearly snorted water out his nose laughing. It was SO SO gross. Worst tasting thing I've had in a long time.

As for good tasting stuff.... well in October I bought a bag of candy corn. I got it on a day I was feeling strong. I came home and weighed it out into serving sizes and bagged them up. I think there were something like 6-8 servings. I allowed myself a serving of the candy corn any time I wanted during the month of October. I ate it all. But I didn't eat it all in one sitting.
