Is it possible?

Hey all quick question. I've always had a pretty sluggish metabolism and struggled to lose and keep weight off. im the kind who looks at a muffin and gains a kilo:laugh: anyway i started dieting in June and the weight loss even with gym and weight training has been a steady 1-3lbs a week which is fine. The last 3 weeks or so the weight has been coming off faster and i had to see my doctor as i feel terrible. My heart flutters and races and i thought i was going to pass out on the treadmill. I stopped the gym temporarily but no change and i continually feel a tight chest and a feeling like i swallowed a golf ball, MY doctor says i have no throat or chest redness or infection yet they feel closed up. She says my thyroid feels slightly prominent and wants me tested next week for thyroid function and im having an ECG tuesday. Im pretty scared and i feel awful i've lost 6lbs this week which is a lot for me. Can you give yourself Hyperthyroidism just by dieting??? I never had it before

No, you can't GIVE yourself hyper or hypo thyroidism. When I first read your symptoms I thought "Thyroid". Get the tests done. Try not to be scared. I would stop the gym until you have an answer about what is wrong and what needs to be done to fix it. Good job noticing the change in yourself and going to the doctor. Keep us posted. Hugs to you.

Good decision that you went to a doctor! Hope everything is well.

You stopped logging your food in september. Why?

Losing steadily 1-3lbs/week sounds like a lot to me. I looked at your diary and you had a lot of days where you barely ate over 1200kcal but exercised on top. So in the end you probably had a deficit >1000kcal. Maybe you stressed your body a little too much?

i only logged my food when i felt i needed it to control my eating. once i got into the habit of what and how much i could eat i didnt bother logging so much. my calories have been a lot higher since then on advice from my trainer..more like 1800 a day. i never eat red meat though nor much of any meat or fish at all which perhaps doesnt help

You need to make sure that you take in enough protein every day. I am glad that you went to the doctor. Those are scary symptoms. They will find out what's wrong and then you'll know. I wouldn't work out till you find out what's wrong. Please feel free to add me.
  • I'm too scared to work out :noway: i woke up in the night boiling hot even though it was freezing in my house and my heart was thumping and my chest and throat really tight. it scared the heck out of me
