I decided earlier this month that it was time to make a change and finally commit myself to eating healthy and being active. I'm 31 years old, 5' 7 and currently 221 lbs. Apparently I carry my weight well according to my doctor, but I owe it mostly to Spanx.
I've been overweight since middle school, with my weight fluctuating between 173 at the lowest to 200 at the highest. Over the past couple years of living with my boyfriend and eating whatever, the scale had shot up to 234lbs! I didn't want to be the fat girl with the pretty face anymore. Enough was enough.
I quit smoking about 2 1/2 years ago after many failed attempts, but one day I decided enough was enough! So, one week before the 4th of July holiday I smoked my last cigarette and vowed to never spend another dime on tobacco. I found that quitting before a holiday weekend full of drinking and outdoor cookouts actually helped with my success because I got myself through the worst of it during the most challenging time I could think of. After that it was easy sailing. So, when I decided enough was enough with my weight, I figured why put it off until after the holidays. If I'm going to make a change I might as well do it at that very moment. So here I am, several weeks into my new lifestyle and 13 lbs down. I may not look different yet, but I FEEL great. I have more energy and am all around just a happier me.
Now, my boyfriend is the type who has always been skinny. He's very active but usually skips meals and eats a lot of garbage, like McDonalds, chocolate and cookies, soda, etc etc. He also continued to smoke while I was quitting, so I didn't have a partner in that and I don't really have one when it comes to diet and exercise. It's not that he doesn't encourage me, he's just not in it WITH me.
I've gotten a lot of tips and motivation from the forums and think it would be beneficial to have some friends on here with similar goals. Please feel free to add me as a friend or send me a message!

Hi,
Congrats on quitting the smoking; and getting started on the journey! Your boyfriend sounds exactly like my husband; blessed with a high metabolism and eats whatever he wants without ever gaining. I, unfortunately have wrecked havoc with mine through years of yoyoing and unhealthy ways of dropping weight. I have had it cramming myself into tight undergarments, and want to regain control of my health once & for all. I would be happy for you to add me as friend.
Best wishes,

Good for you! You've already accomplished a lot with quitting smoking and loosing 13 pounds, congrats! When we first got together, my husband also could eat what he wanted and stay skinny, although since he's passed about 35 (he's 37 now) it's caught up with him and he's gained a bit. I'm trying to rebuild my metabolism, but fear it's pretty slow due to years of unhealthy gaining and "dieting". Feel free to add me as a friend.0
