Holiday Celebrations

Tomorrow is December 1st! If you haven't been in full Christmas swing since dessert was served at the Thanksgiving table, then you're probably picking up momentum now.

My husband and I celebrate the season every year by attending a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. Light show, Christmas story, Rock-n-Roll renditions of carols. It is pretty epic!

In what different ways do you celebrate the Christmas season that do not revolve around food?

Is eggnog a food... hmm. I guess the more rum you have and the less 'egg' would make it closer to a non food celebration.

My family decorates our yard with lights on the weekend after Thanksgiving.

My daughter and I dress up and see the Nutcracker. The weekend matinees are the best because all the little girls are dressed up in their fancy Christmas dresses.

We always attend Zoolights (the Phoenix Zoo lights the whole zoo with thousands and thousands of lights and is open to visitors at night). It is always a happy night out.

We spend one evening driving around looking at Christmas lights, although that sometimes ends up with a stop at IHOP for some reason.

We go to a party hosted by my boss, who lives a few blocks from the parade route for the Christmas Light Parade downtown. The walk to and from the parade is always fun.

Even though I associate baking cookies and making candy and treats with the holiday season and still do a lot of that, I have tried to make our holidays about family togetherness, activities and fun instead of being focused only on food and gifts.

I pack up all my kiddos in the car on Christmas Eve and drive around to look at Christmas lights on all the houses while we drink hot chocolate and listen to Xmas songs!! :)
