What protein supplement without whey or soy to use?

Hey guys!

If you are like me, you may struggle with getting in an adequate percentage of dietary protein & need to use a protein powder. However; I have not been able to find a type of protein that my body can handle. I am quite frustrated. I am allergic to whey & soy. I recently tried egg protein, but it gives me horrible flatus and I have not yet tried casein protein, because of cost. My most recent try was Myoplex Lite. It doesn't say that it has whey in it & I don't get the digestive problems from it. Still, I have been getting a dermal allergic reaction that I suspect is caused by whatever "milk based" protein they utilize.

So, my question is....What protein do you use that isn't whey, soy or egg based? What brands do you prefer? Flavors?

Thanks for any input. I appreciate it.

true nutrition lets you build custom protein shakes. I haven't tried them, but follow a power lifting blog that's a big fan of them.
prices seem decent too. You can make beef protein shakes. Can't imagine what that tastes like. Probably want to put lots of flavoring in it.
  • Most of the whey and soy protein powders I tried have an artificial taste. I alternate between rice protein powder and pea protein powder with no issues. The brand of rice protein I prefer is NutriBiotic. For the pea protein, I use Now Foods. Since rice protein is one of the easiest forms pf protein to digest, I would recommend that. The pea protein is a little high in sodium, so that's why I alternate between the two. Cost was also a concern with me. I went to a couple of health food and vitamin stores that offer packets of products (some of them even gave me free samples) and tried several different brands and varieties before I bought the larger canisters of the powders. I hope this helps.

just started using gemma pea protein from truenutrition.

Good macros, good bio availability, good price point. But if you have a refined palette and cant suck up a bit of grit in your shakes. Stay away.
  • Thanks ladies. This does help. I will take a trip to my nutrition store & see what rice & pea protein samples they have. Blessings to you all.

    Becks. :)

Just to throw another option out there, I have never been able to consume whey protein well, so I have switched to hemp protein. The taste isn't amazing, but it blends in well to fruit and geek yogurt shakes. Specifically, I use Manitoba Harvest Pro 70. I haven't been using it too long but I would recommend it up to this point.

I use hemp protein powder. In addition to protein, it contains the perfect ratio of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. It's a super boost of nutrition, better than whey and much better than soy, imo.
