I've been hungry 24/7, HELP!

I'm on my 10th day of Insanity and ever since I started, I've been hungry all the time! I just ate dinner earlier than usual an 1.5 hours ago, but I'm hungry again! I'm not used to being hungry all the time.. My calorie intake 1490 per day, which is more than I used to eat before I started exercising. I'm 5' 5.5", 144 lbs

Should I increase my calorie intake? If so, how many calories SHOULD I eat?

Replies

  • When I get super hungry I start ODing on protein. I scoff eggs and protein shakes usually, eventually you feel either sick or full! For me once that day's done I'll be less hungry the next!

Try to choose foods that are high in fibre. They keep you full for longer. You can get supplements that you're supposed to eat between meals to keep you full too. :)

First, try eating to your calorie goal.....you may have your goal set to 1490, but for the last week (at least), you're only eating around 1200 cals. Also, eat back your exercise calories. You need the food for fuel. Listen to your body - your hunger is your body asking for more food!

Eat more protein and fiber, and eat your calorie allotment! Whenever I get hungry, I ask myself, "do I need protein or fiber or both?" and base what I eat around that.

I agree with the above. Your protein intake is 50-60, get it up over 100

Yep more complex carbs and up your protein. Also more water. All of those will help keep you feeling full. Remember simple carbs spike your blood sugar and burn off really fast. This will make you have cravings and make you feel hungry because your body wants that blood sugar spike again. Complex carbs and animal proteins digest slowly and do not spike your blood sugar as much. Also, NEVER eat a carb without a balance of protein.

As a diabetic, I'm all about the blood sugar LOL.

You aren't eating enough protein, fibre, healthy fats, vitamins or minerals: you won't get full on a diet of processed carbs and junk food nor will you maintain toned muscle. Eat real food, stuff that looks much the same as when it came off the plant or the animal. There is no cookie or pizza tree! Switch your diary from tracking your sodium to tracking your fibre intake.

Start with seven to nine portions a day of dark or brightly coloured fruits and vegetables, you are only hitting one. Add three portions of reduced fat dairy (real stuff, not processed) for bones and muscle contraction, real protein (dairy, eggs, meat, fish) at every meal and snack, little portion of healthy fats at every meal or snack (avocado, olives, coconut, nuts, seeds). If you are still hungry then add in healthy carbs (beans, lentils, barley, oats, brown rice, root vegetables).

Before I looked at you food diary, not enough protein was my first thought and after checking your diary........Yes, no doubt you need more protein, especially for breakfast. And better snacks. Cookies are not going keep you full.

Once you start getting more protein at breakfast and lunch you may find you don't even need snacks because you are satisfied. That's been the case for me. I used to be hungry halfway through the morning and want an afternoon sweet snack and now it rarely enters my mind.

The nutrition guide has the formula to figure out how much you should be eating.
I'm starting Monday and I'm already eating what the Nutrition Guide suggests, 2000 calories (5'5", 155, 31% BF) and I'm losing inches and not hungry.

Figure out the correct amount you should be eating (it's easy) and hit or come as close as you can to your macros (protein, carbs, & fats).
  • I find that personally sipping hot broth helps make me feel full. Hot chocolate works too (I use ovaltine, cuz the mix by itself is only 40 calories) though it's higher calories, of course. Water is helpful also, but some days you just gotta eat! If you feel like you're starving you might just need to feed that (just not all the time, lol)
  • I know this sounds funny, but sometimes if you brush your teeth and tongue it will clean your mouth of the yuckiness and take away the hunger urge. It works for me usually.

I looked at your diary, you aren't eating enough. The minimum you should be eating during Insanity is 1500 cals.
If you want me to do the formula PM me with your weight, height & age. But try it out on your own first as you need to re do it with ever 5 lb loss.

    http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Figure out your BMR, then TDEE and subtract 500 or 20% of your TDEE, that's what you should be eating.
