Amount of exercise makes no difference.

I am fairly new to MFP. I am experimenting with changing the amount of exercise and seeing what effects that might have. I have noticed that if I want to lose 5 pounds by January 4, I am allotted 1740 calories per day. Fair enough.

Then I added in playing soccer for an hour 3 times per week. Still 1740 calories allowed per day to lose 5 pounds by January 4.

I then decided to add in playing "competetive soccer" 7 times a week for 300 minutes per day. Still 1740 calories allowed per day to lose 5 pounds by January 4.

I would imagine that playing "competetive soccer" for 6 hours per day, 7 days per week, would cause someone to lose quite a bit more than 5 pounds per month on a 1740 calorie per day diet.

(In fact, I think it it were really possible to exercise this much, you would lose so much weight in a month that you might just disappear altogether.)

soccer does not burn any calories

no one here does soccer because soccer does not work

soccer is for little kids who are afraid to play football

Or it could be that you input your exercise after and are then allotted calories by the system, instead of it assuming you have done the exercise... just maybe.

It really is 80-90% diet and the rest exercise. Exercise (especially strength training) will improve your metabolism and help you be able to burn more efficiently, but if you dont eat right (not just calories but the correct mix) it has a bigger impact. Also try mixing it up on the exercise...some soccer, some gym time, other cardio, etc. I have found my body reacts very well to the mixing it up. Good luck!

When you are setting your goals the amount of exercise makes no difference. But when you actually log the exercise each day, it will be factored into the formula. You will be given more calories to eat based on what you burn, and based on your net calories each day (what you eat minus exercise calories burned) MFP will give you an estimate of what you will weigh in 5 weeks when you complete your diary for the day.

It doesn't change the calorie number in your goals until the day you put it in the diary. Take today's diary and put in 3 hours of soccer, see what happens to your net calories for the day and the calories gained by doing exercise on that day. (Then you can delete that exercise for today if today wasn't a soccer day.)

    this.

mfp doesnt count your exercise until you've actually done them. if you want your regular exercise to figure into your base calorie goals, then choose the appropriate activity level and not just sedentary

    And running

Without exercise at all I would still be a fat cow who would sit down & do nothing. I would still have a massive back problem & I would be so unfit that walking 1km would have me puffing.
